Here are steps to connect a Samsung soundbar to a Sanyo FVM3982 TV using an optical cable:

  1. Locate the Optical Out port on the back of the Sanyo TV. This port will be labeled "Optical Out" and is usually covered by a small protective cap.
  2. Remove the protective cap from the Optical Out port and plug in one end of the optical cable.
  3. Connect the other end of the optical cable to the Optical In port on the Samsung soundbar. This port may be labeled "Optical In" or "Toslink".
  4. Turn on both the TV and the soundbar.
  5. On the Sanyo TV, use the remote to navigate to the audio settings. Look for an option to set the audio output to "External Speakers", "External Audio", or "Optical Out". Select this option.
  6. Adjust the volume on the Samsung soundbar using its remote control.
Once these steps are completed, the sound from the TV should be played through the Samsung soundbar. If you encounter any issues or don't hear any sound, check to make sure that the soundbar is set to the correct input and that the volume is turned up. Additionally, make sure that both the TV and soundbar are properly connected and powered on.

Hook your sound bar to your output device, Cable Box, DVD/Blu-Ray player. Or try the follow should your Sound Bar have HDMI.

Output Device>Sound Bar>TV
The Sound bar should have a HDMI in and out or at least most Samsung models do as well as Bluetooth support.

It is easier to answer when you list the model of each Item, there are many different version of Samsung sound bars.

You don't have an optical digital connection on your TV but you do have a coaxial digital audio output that you can connect to the aux in on the soundbar!

I suspect that the TV you have does not support the ARC function that the sound bar has. What you may have to do is use the Optical In from the sound bar to the TV and you should be good to go. You may have to change the TV's settings to use the Optical In though. So you should end up with the BluRay Player connected to the TV via an HDMI cable, the sound bar connected to the TV via the Optical In using a fiber optic cable. Hope this helps.

Optical out ports on TV's have a rubber plug covering the port to prevent dust from entering when it's unused. Look again at the tv for that rubber plug. It may be there.
