MY PRODUCT: TCL 50FS3800 50-Inch 1080p Roku Smart LED TV Manufactured - OCTOBER 2015 Model No. - 50FS3800 Serial No. - 1510GTO000082A00540 Power Supply Board - T0151237PH0037 Main Board - GT0000082A 10189568MA0086 T-Com Board - 6ALVVG82NT353213KT00001 Purchased 6 March 2016 Warranty - expired long since THE PROBLEM: Divide the screen into thirds, the left and right thirds are fine but the center third is in shadow, not completely dark, but difficult to see what is going on. It also went through a period of suddenly turning off, then right back on. I'm certain it wasn't the TV, it was our power grid. It was flickering the lights to outages lasting two or three minutes. Without even flickering the lights, the clock on the microwave would need resetting sometimes. Could something like this have caused the problem I'm seeing? THINGS I'VE TRIED AND RESULTS: The short answer is, sadly nothing worked 1From @ILuvTrading on the remote: Press the Home key 5 times. Then press the Up key once. Then press Rewind twice. Press Fast Forward twice. You need do nothing more. The menu will flash a few times, the TV will turn itself off and back on. RESULT - Nothing that I could I could see. I tried it 3 times because it's easy and free, so I wanted it to work. It did not. 2Turned it off then back on a few minutes later, then tried it over-night. Then I simply pulled the plug while the set was powered on. I left it unplugged over 48 hours. It didn't work. 3I watched some youtube videos, from ShopJimmy actually, and got brave and took the back off my TV! I didn't find any pet hair or dust! We have 2 dogs and a cat and they all shed to one degree or another. The lack of a fan would explain that. I also didn't find any scorched marks, swollen components, any obvious problems. I took several pictures of the layout and each board. It took me a few minutes to find the T-Com Board, it runs along underneath the bottom of the set. I included the numbers of the boards in the first part of this novel in the hope that they are the correct numbers - there are a lot of numbers on each board, as I'm sure you know. So what would I like from you? First off please, advice is my TV fubar? Can I fix it, that is, can I swap out the Power Supply or the Main Board or both even? The T-Com board looks delicate and formidible at the same time, if that makes sense. I don't want to tackle that one, unless it's very cheap, because I'm afraid I could damage the new board or even the TV and thus waste my money. Could the fluctuations in the power grid cause this problem considering the problem didn't show up until several months after the power was fixed? Thank you for reading about my problem, and I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank You, Jim Knowles
Hi,
if you have constant power outages, this can affect your electric equipment in different ways. Power depends on a certain current and voltage and if those fluctuate, the improper current and voltage interact with the different electronic parts of the tv which they shouldn't be touching. Overtime, these affects act as wear and tare.
To overcome this, please move to factory resetting your tv as you've already performed a power-cycling strategy. If the problem persists, you might need to using a technician to fix the issue and also finding a power generator to help stop this issue in the future.
Thank you.
Testimonial: "Thank you for your advice. I tried a Factory Reset, it took a little while to look up all the passwords for all the subscription services. It fixed the problem, but other problems showed up, such as difficulty changing channels, and the shadow came back, this time on the left third of the screen. These problems combined with the after Christmas sales made an easy decision, we're buying a new TV! Thank you again!"
