Amana PTH153B50AM PTAC where the heat runs intermittently.

This unit is about 10 years old and has worked fine until recently. Now, when I turn the heat on the fan starts and the heating element gets hot. After a few minutes the heater element turns off but the fan continues to run. In a few more minutes the heat comes back on, heats for a few minutes and turns off again. The unit will repeat this cycle until the desired temperature set on the thermostat is reached and then it will stop as normal. My thermostat is an Amana PHWT-A150H. Thanks for any help!

One of the reasons this could happen is the heat sensing limit switch area has a lot of dirt, which could make it appear that the desired temperature has been achieved. So cleaning/air-blow that section and also cleaning the inside/fan-blower area might be helpful. There is a outside thermistor, which cn be fauluty as well. I have seen a few of these instance for the above heating issue. Hope this helps. Good luck

I'm not familiar with your specific unit but ..sounds like an electronic gas value has gone bad or has a bad connection when that happened to my friend it wasn't that expensive to have it fixed .. BYW it acted like this for a while then stopped working completely

Testimonial: "Thanks for trying, but this unit is an all electric unit. If you ever stay at a Hampton or Holiday Inn, this is the unit under the window."

I have an amana ptac model pth153B50AM it does not seem to cool much at all but I do hear the compressor come on.Before i cost myself a couple thousand dollars can anyone tell me is this fixable?

yes it is fixable does the blower run? I would pull it out take it outside and wash with hose the outside coil and inside coil make sure you clean the outside coil real good on both sides. this may solve your problem.

I have a ptac that's just over a year old. Just recently started having a problem with the cold air. Cold air shuts off after a short time, with the fan continuing to run (doesn't matter how low I set the...

This means there is a fault in relay section in PCB or might be loose connection in connector. Pls reconnect the connector again and tight that connector with cable tie and any tape then see , if it works then fine if not means problem in contractor. Just clean that

My amana ptac is not heating....the code "np" is displayed....how do I correct this...we just installed the unit and know little about operation. Thanks

I don't see this error code in the manual. I do see nP as an error code for Window Switch lockout. I just had this happen to me and they had me reset the control board.

Remove case, flick master switch to OFF for 10 seconds. Press Heat/Cool same time turn switch back on HOLD until off light comes on.

You should be fixed. Just had to do this for my unit. I was playing around with the settings and turned on the window switch option by accident.

My 7yr old Amana PTAC unit, Model PTH123B50AJ sometimes works and sometimes not. I had a repair tech check it & he told me the control board was bad and they wanted $440 to fix it. I told him no,

EBay often has the control boards for Amana heat pumps, and installing them is fairly straightforward, provided you have some experience with electronics, a soldering iron, etc. Amanapartsonline.com may also be able to sell you the part, which should run between $50 and $150.

Given, however, that the thermostat is also showing problems, as well as what parts are going for these days, I'd seriously consider upgrading to a new unit and selling the old one on Craigslist to offset the cost a bit. If you can find an HVAC technician, someone who's learning HVAC, someone who just wants it for a guestroom where it need not work perfectly or a landlord who can afford to have a secondhand unit fixed and put it in one of their properties for their tenants to buy your fixable old one for a few hundred dollars and a new one only runs about $700, your upgrade will cost less than having the 7-year-old unit repaired, plus you'll be recycling.

I have an Amana PTAC unit model no. PTH153B50AM. It will not heat, but the fan runs continuously in the heat mode. The unit has a label that says it has a manual reset for the heater, but no direction as...

First unplug the unit......Take the front cover off, take the wire screen off where the front fan is there is 4 or 5 screws that hold the plate that was under the screen. The electric heating elements are under that plate between the evaporator coil and the front blower wheel. It will lift straight up and give you access to the elements. In the electric heating element area there is a limit switch with a red or black button in the center of it push it to reset the limit it is on the right hand side by the controls. I wish I could find a picture to show you but I couldn't find one. It is not easy to get to... Hope this helps.

Amana PTH153B50AM AC works, heat doesn't. Is there a reset?

there might be a reset button on the heat protector / you just might have a bad heat protector or the sensor on the board could be burnt out
