When turning on my monitor(AL1914) the Acer name appears then disappears and a box that reads "no signal" appears.
Then the screen goes blank and the blue power button turns yellow. The monitor works fine on an older PC that still runs on windows XP. Is my PC the problem or is that monitor just too old?

Not the monitor. check that both end of the cable are tight. The most likely problem is the video card in the computer it it works okay on the XP computer.

This means that your monitor is not receiving a signal from your computer. The easiest way to fix this is to plug the monitor into the computer. I hope this helps and have a nice day!
Check your connections to the PC. Make sure that they are nice and secure. If there is a resolution problem setting it should display the boot process and then go blank after starting the operating system.
Ive seen this on other monitors. Look for a 1 and 2. Some monitors do NOT auto detect a signal, and this one might not. Look for a way to set the monitor from Digital input to VGA input. Try that and see.
This Problem is Acer(s) Monitors. Though it is a nuisance one fix That has work for many is the Unplugging after it goes back to Good (viewable) screen. I have hooked mine up to an inexpensive Power strip to make it easier for me and just turn off at time indicated above and Viola Simple is as Simple does :)
Try connecting the wires properly. try changing the VGA cable. i had the same problem my screen goes black some times and pink i changed the VGA cable it was absolutely fine!!!
