What is the best way to connect this to my PC? I can either do it via the desktop or motherboard or via the PC Monitor using only the 3.5 jack? But which cable do I need?
The best way is always via USB. That is how I connect my Bowers and Wilkins MM1 speakers, but you need the Drivers.
Bose has a section on setting up on their website.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your advice, Andrew Here's what I found in that link. To connect a computer to a Bose system, follow these steps: Connect the 1/8-inch end of a dual male RCA-to-1/8-inch adapter cable to the audio output of the computer. The color of the 1/8-inch audio output jack of most computer sound cards is green. It may be labeled "Line OUT" or "Headphone OUT". Connect the RCA end of the adapter cable to the audio input jacks of the Bose system. Be sure to match the colors of the cables to the color of the jacks on the Bose system."
Step 1, Get a USB bridging cable. Connecting your PC laptop and desktop through USB ports requires a special bridging cable. These cables are also called USB networking cables, as they can "network" two computers through USB ports. Bridging cables look similar to male-to-male USB cables, but with chips in the middle of the cable (encased in hard plastic) that enable file transfers.[1] X Research ...Step 2, Connect each end of the bridging cable to available USB ports.
