Burnt smell in upright Whirlpool freezer

We have a whirlpool side by side fridge / freezer, last night we heard a weird pop and when we opened freezer this morning it smell like burnt plastic and their was a pale grey residue on the white sections. Freezer still cold though and food still frozen?

It may have been the door frame heater, mine went bang as well. If the door frame isn't warm, that is it.

The heater stops the gasket sticking. It could be other things though, circulation fan, defrost heater, defrost timer or similar. Time will tell.

Assuming that both freezer and refrigerator temperatures have risen and the humming sound that you heard was followed by a sudden click more than likely the start device on the compressor has gone bad. This is a common problem with all Whirlpool refrigerators (KitchenAid is Whirlpools top of the line product and suffers the same problem).

Door will no vacuum seal closed

Are you sure compressor is running? If it is make sure the evap fan is running. You should be able to hear the fan when you open the door. If ypou do not hear a fan running then fan has gone bad. 4390914 and approx cost is rediculous in my mind but it is approx. 150.00 to 160.00 . Crazy for a fan motor.

Check the fan that moves the air from the freezer side to the refrigerator side. It is either stuck in ice or not working. Defrost the refrigerator for 24 hours and then restart it Listen for the fan operation be aware that the fan may shut off when you open the door, so listen closely. Defrosting it may fix or the fan may need to be replaced.

Heard a "buzzing" noise and then smoke appeared, smelling like burning plastic. Now the freezer and fridge are not cooling. When I open the freezer side there is a fan that is still running.

you need to oder whats called an overload and relay
its a whirlpool so www3.sears.com would be the most help
type in your model
do the search in the compressor area
usually part number 4 but no guarentee
OVERLOAD and RELAY
might be one part or two dependiong on your modle

Check and see if the smell is coming from the bottom back of the frig by the compressor, this models start device on the compressor has been known too do that.

no you can not. there are no separate defrost control for freezer and fridge. the evaporator is located in the freezer section and it is supposed to defrost automatically. what is the problem in the first place?

How do I fix the water dispenser and ice maker in a Whirlpool WRF757SDEM00? I have run the diagnostics on the ice maker and did not get any error messages. I was able to get water into the ice tray and have it make ice through the diagnostics. The ice maker will make approx. 1 tray of ice per day right now. I have changed the filter and verified that water is getting to the filter. I verified that the water line from the top of the door to the dispenser is clear. The current temperature settings are 39 for the fridge and +2 for the freezer both above manufacturer recommendations.
