Re: How to replace bottom in steamer basket on Cook's...
To replace the bottom in the steamer basket on a Cook's Essentials 3-tier steamer model 97500, you can follow these steps:
Disassemble the steamer by removing the lid and the baskets from the base.
Locate the bottom of the steamer basket that needs to be replaced. It may be attached to the basket with clips or other fasteners.
Use a flat-headed screwdriver or another tool to gently pry the bottom of the steamer basket away from the rest of the basket. Be careful not to damage the basket or the bottom as you do this.
Once the bottom of the steamer basket is free, remove it from the basket and set it aside.
Take the new bottom for the steamer basket and carefully fit it into place in the basket. Make sure that it is properly aligned and securely attached to the basket.
Once the new bottom is in place, reassemble the steamer by placing the baskets back into the base and attaching the lid.
Test the steamer to make sure that the new bottom is functioning properly and that the steamer is working correctly.
If you encounter any difficulty during this process, it is recommended that you consult the instruction manual for your Cook's Essentials steamer or contact the manufacturer for assistance.

One of the extra
benefits of having a Rice Cooker is that you can also use it
very effectively as a steamer for your vegetables. It is very
simple to do and also works very well.

To use your
rice cooker as a steamer you will need to use the steamer
basket that came with your rice cooker. That is what the metal
thing with all the holes in it is for.

First place couple
of cups of water in the bottom of the cooker pan... yes you still
need to place the pan in the cooker... do not place water in the
cooker without the bottom pan in place! Then place that metal basket
on the top of the bottom pan and place your veggies in there. They
can be either frozen, fresh, or thawed, it does not matter, but may
affect your cooking times.

Then comes the
good part....you get to season your veggies with whatever it is that
will make them taste even better! Salt, Pepper, and even a Teriyaki
sauce will work well... but you can spice them up with minced onion,
parsley, garlic powder or anything else you might think sounds good.

Then just place
the lid on the top of the basket and turn the rice cooker on by
pressing the cook or steam button. The cooker will heat up to produce
steam. When the vegetables begin to soften, check them and turn off
the cooker when they get to the softness that you desire. Do not over
cook them as you will loose the flavor, and nutrients, that you are
trying to preserve by using the steamer.

Once the veggies
are done, some people enjoy melting butter, margarine, or other
similar things on them to give them even more flavor.

Most of all enjoy
those great veggies!!!
Barbara,
The obvious answer is "try it and see". It's not going to cost a fortune and if it doesn't work it'll clean up fairly easily. I would suggest that you soak the rice first. Bear in mind that rice takes up to 15mins to cook. If it works in your steamer it may take longer.
To insure long life and satisfactory performance from your Nordic Ware Rice Cooker, follow these simple guidelines (microwave use only).
1. Before using your Rice Cooker wash it thoroughly by hand in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher (top rack only).
2.Foods with strong colors (particularly red sauces, tomatoes) may stain your cookware.Staining that may occur will not affect the use of the cookware.
(Cooking times may vary due to variations in microwave ovens.Adjust cooking times for best results in your oven.)
To Cook Rice:
1. Remove basket.
2. Pour 1 cup of uncooked rice into the bottom of the basket, rinse rice thoroughly with cold water.
3. Transfer the rinsed rice from the basket to the bottom of the cooker.
4. Add 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 tsp salt (salt is optional).
5. Secure lid and lock clamps. Open vent holes.
6. Microwave on medium setting (50%) for 10 - 12 minutes (white rice) or 18-20 (brown rice).
7. Remove from microwave, close vent holes and let stand with the lid fastened for 4-5 minutes (the steam continues to cook the rice.)
8. Remove rice from the cooker and fluff with a fork.
Yields: 3 cups of cooked rice or 4 to 6 servings.

3. Peel vegetables (if desired), cut into evenly sized pieces and place inside basket.
4. Secure lid and lock clamps. Close vent holes.
5. Microwave on high for 3-4 minutes.
6. Remove from microwave and let stand with lid fastened for 3-4 minutes (the steam continues to cook the vegetables.)
Cooking Pasta:
1. Remove basket and lid (lid not used initially for preparing pasta inside the microwave).
2. Pour 2 cups (5 oz.) of uncooked noodles into the bottom of the cooker.
3. Add 2 1/2 cups water.
4. Microwave on high setting 10 minutes, stirring after 5 minutes.
5. Remove from microwave, stir noodles, secure lid and lock clamps. Close vent holes. Let stand for 3-4 minutes.
HELPFUL HINTS TO ENHANCE THE FLAVOR OF ANY MICROWAVE DISH:
1. Use chicken broth instead of water for added flavor.
2. Add a little butter or oil to contents.
your cooker can only cook about 1 1/2 cups of rice(raw) add 1 cup rice to 1 1/2 ( 1/3 if youlike dryer rice) water , you should have a lever, push down to cook it will pop up when the rice is finished allow about 4 min to let the steaming stop
to steam you need a steamer basket or the fan folding type, it should be about 1/2 inch off the bottom of the cooker add about 1/2 cup water( time will depend on what your steaming)
Here are the instructions that came with the cooker:
