I was trying to understand what could be the reason of my PHILIPS TV turning off by itself. When I turn it ON, goes on for 10~20min.. then switches off by itself. To turn it on, I need to unplug and plug it in again, then still goes ON but switches Off faster, only lasts 5min.. since doesn't turn on by the remote, I unplug and plug it in again, but starts to switching off by itself faster, each time I do do the process of unplug / plug in only lasts sometimes 3 or 2min, and then only 1min.. and that's it, does not last much.. if I leave unplugged by few hours or on the next day.. will be again the same thing, 1st starts and lasts longer on the 1st time.. but then gets shorter the time of remaing on.. by the symptoms might be something on the temperature.. or is this a weird cap? Or something else? This is a Philips TV, Manufactured June 2011, model: 37PFL4606H 58. Thanks in advance, appreciate any help on this. Regards, Andre.
It could be a lot of things causing the issue, without electronic knowledge it's going to be hard to diagnose, also a 10 plus year old set isn't worth fixing, parts will run more than the set is worth, time for a new set.

Thanks for helping me understand this problem. I've placed new batteries in the RC but, that don't help. It's the RC that came with the TV when I purchased it new. [email protected]
Outside your home like an alarm signal from another house, company or car. Can you switch the signal to another frequency? Or just build a Faraday cage ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage
there is a infra red emmiting diode inside that has failed. this is the diode just under the prism inside the unit. replace that and re-time the mode switch. the unit is not made by philips but by funai so no support can be given to you from philips. I've repaired close to 60 of these with the same problem you have.
before any attempt to deep cause of problem, unsolder first all the tack switches in the front panel of tv.then turn on the tv using remote control observe? cuz maybe one of the switches is stock.if not, proceed to eeprom servicing which is u have to look for service mode of ur tv model to unlock it and reset it to factory value.
Right i had this same problem for ages! i cannot explain why but when i uplugged my DVD player (which was flashing its light at the same time as the tv for some reason) the TV has worked fine.
