That will be a safety feature. It's clearly suffering from an overload in either the power supply or audio output stages. Either take it in for a service, or look inside (with the power off) for damage to the amp. Check the devices attached to the heat sink.

HTR-5650 - When I turn on it takes about 1 second and then it shuts off by itself.

make sure it is plugged up good and there is no dust in the ports and if that dont work you may need new parts for it . is it a radio or a vcr?

How to reset yamaha HTR-5650 AV receiver (maybe others) to factory default settings:

1. turn power off.
2. press the 6ch input and stereo button simultaneously for 4 seconds. Then while holding down these 2 buttons, turn the power on.
3. press preset tuning to the right until option #9 is selected.
4. Then, press program button until the *RV option is selected.
5. turn power off, wait 10 seconds.
6. turn power on, settings are reset.

Receiver shuts off intermittently, when you turn it back on it says "check SF wires". What are SF wires?

It's "check SP wires". It means (do I have to say it?) Check the Speaker Wires for short circuits.

TV Audio out to HRT 5650 receiver

You may need to enable the fixed audio output line level from the TV. Some TV`s require you to enter the AUDIO menu/setup selection on the TV remote controller, and then enable the AUDIO OUTPUT Jacks, this will turn off the TV built in speakers and engage the audio RCA Jacks.

I realize sometimes people read the manuals and don't understand the technical jargon.
