I have a Vizio M60-C3 that occasionally has no sound. It does not matter if I use the internal TV speakers or the Sound Bar. When this happens, if I try to raise the volume, the the volume control scale displayed on the TV will start to rise but then go back down to zero. Almost as if I am competing against another remote lowering the volume while i am trying to raise the volume. After one or multiple reboots, the tv will work normally for a while.

You were lucky, only 99% of people here get a satisfactory results trying to repair their own televisions, even partially as you have.
The most likely cause is a bad connection on a ribbon cable or a dry joint on that board that you tapped. Try reseating the ribbon cables first. If that doesn't work, remove the boards and on the soldered side, look for gaps where the components meet the solder.
Replacing the backlight LED strips requires stripping the TV down, taking the LCD display out and taking the display apart to access the backlight LED strips. This a difficult thing to do without damaging the display or other parts of the TV.
My new 4K Vizio 60" M60-C3 started scrolling through input channels on it's own and after a minute would stop and "land" on an input, then I would have to change it to the correct one. Then the volume started "racing" to 100 making it impossible to watch. Vizio repairman came and replaced a small board about 1.5 in. x 5 in. and it is back working again. It fell within the 1 year warranty, so no charge, and he suggested I go back to Wal-Mart where I bought it and spend $59 on the extended warranty. I am certainly going to try and do that.
