It sounds to me like the rubber o-rings are getting old. Try posting your concerns on the Peerless Customer Support webpage. They can help you identify the model of your faucet and what repair kit to purchase. (Repair is fairly easy, the faucet is repaired in-place).
Peerless happens to be a less than preferred brand. If you go to www.peerless.com, you will find the model type. Try it, you may be able to order it online. haven't seen it around.

the kit to rebuild the peerless diverter is very common. take the cartridge to any hardware store and ask the plumbing clerk to assist you in getting the correct kit. good luck
