Samsung front load washer just died. Panel display board went black? Can anyone tell me the problem and cost to fix please?

Problem with plasma screens is that they do have a limited life, they also do not like to travel. You have to keep them upright because the glass panel is so heavy. Did you lie it flat for transportation? Is the black area in the middle bottom or in the corner? If it is in the corner, and the mounting point has a problem, it could cause this, but hard to say without seeing it. Does the black area retreat when it is off and cools down? I doubt if it is the system board, sadly if it is the display panel, it would not be worth fixing.

Just use a marker to put a dot next to the start button and another mark to indicate different settings. You can look up the settings online

If its the bearings I have in mind, you are looking at about a 3 hour job, but not too expensive.

I had the same problem. I ended up paying $300 ($100 part $200 labour) for an authorized technician to replace the control board and that fixed the problem.

In my case, the problem was a dead main board. The board cost $190 and the overall repair cost $335. I will never buy another Whirlpool due to this experience.

The display panel costs about 600$ by itself. It's a metal casing under all of the boards and I definatly would NOT recommend a DIY'er to do it unless you have a digital camera to take pictures of step by step and different colored markers to designate the connectors.

The easiest way to tell a faulty display panel (if it lights) is to gently press on the screen until you see a "ripple effect" in the color. Be warned,pressing too hard can cause pixels to "die" and remain discolored permanently

if not it's the main control board that is defective.

can you tell me the full model # & serial # (these will be located on your bill of sale, since you can't open the door).

Cycle ended prior to spin segment. Checked error code history to find E47 fault. Troubleshot per manual. Found that the "PTC one-spot check" read ~1582ohms. Although the book indicates that this is sufficient and recommends (rather tells) you to replace the control board we were still skeptical seeing as this is a ONE POINT check on a device that is non-linear. We went with the lesser of two evils. Purchased and replaced a new door lock. Works again! Phew, that could have been costly.

Yes. I replaced the control panel (the panel with all the cycle buttons on it). I downloaded the technician's manual from whirlpool and went through the troubleshooting to find the problem. Th part costs around $106.00. Just make sure you order the right color.
