Looking for recovery disk(s) for the Sony Viao PCV-7752
Looking for recovery disk(s) for this Sony viao because I would like to restore it to factory OEM.
To narrow down the results it runs Windows XP home edition from the factory, looking for the recovery disks in image form (iso, img, ect.)
Good luck and thanks in advance
It told you that you either have to try Best Buy for recovery OR frustrate yourself hunting for the recovery disc for that model in forums. I suppose you could try to buy the exact unit with recovery disc on Ebay if it popped up. Only the Best Buy solution really makes sense. Well, good and bad news. First the good news. The Sony site says to contact Best Buy for OS systems older than Windows 7.
Now the bad news about the alternatives.
Sony's recovery disks check for model numbers, so they are not interchangeable. If you use a generic XP installation, it will wipe personal data files and definitely not install or recover any Sony software. And Windows own XP Recovery Console demands you put in the recovery CD/DVD. As you finding the recovery disk at Sony, that's a no go. No do I find it at 3rd party sites, not even internet archive for your model. As you are looking for restoration to factory defaults, there is no use pointing to data recovery options. Nor do I find the recovery discs on Ebay. And Microsoft does not offer an ISO of XP and says sites that do may contain malware.
The needle in the haystack approach would be to seek the discs on an XP Forum site. There is a site that alleges it is working on a workaround to defeat Sony's check of model numbers but I see no result. Just why Best Buy might could help, I don't know. My stops at Best Buy suggests they ship the computer off to parts unknown and I suppose one such outfit would either have the recovery discs or wipe the computer and put on a generic XP setup minus Sony software and personal data. So, maybe this information will help you in your decisions.
Testimonial: "Like; im fine with the personal data being erased beacuse I found the specific pc at a dump in an electronics bin; therefore I may just end up putting generic windows xp home edition on it anyways; but I would like to get it to be fully OEM."

Sony desktop computers can be placed into factory restore mode by shutting them completely down, and then pressing the VAIO Assist button to turn it back on. Follow the on-screen menu to get to the restore mode that resets to factory state.
If you have not burned a set of recovery disks, I believe when you boot up you can get to the recovery partition. During the boot with the splash screen on (the thing that says VIAO in the begining), start pressing the F10 or F12 key. This should bring up the boot options and allow you to boot from the recovery partition and restore the computer back to factory settings. If you burned the disks for the computer, just place disk one in the drive and boot.
Hope this helps and it was what your were looking for.
viruses often plant themselves firmly in the system restore files. They could also be preventing you from executing it. If you have "rogue programs" a system restore almost never works. You need to either clean the rogue programs in safe mode or backup your files and reinstall from scratch.
Did sound work without a sound card previously? If so then try going into device manager in control panel and righyt clicking the sound icon and make it check for an updated driver.
Have you tried holding down the F10 key when you first turn on the laptop? I know of other sony laptops that have a built in restore and to access that is to press F10 as your turning on the system and as long as its not corrupt it should go in.
Since the "recovery" partition is no longer there, your only option is to request a CD recovery disk from Sony. This will allow you to rebuild the PC to the factory starting point. You will need to provide proof of ownership +/or license.
Not sure how that is helpful in any way...
