Step 1: Laptop or Desktop ? ENABLE NUMLOCK KEYS USING REGITRY Check the LED light that indicates whether or not the Number Lock is enabled. If the light is on, press the "Num Lock" key on your keyboard. Look for the light to turn off, signaling that the Number Lock has been disabled. Change your Number Lock status at start up (Number Lock is disabled on start-up by default). Click "Start," then "Run" and type "regedit" to pull up the Windows Registry. Open the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" folder, then subsequently open the "Control Panel\" and "Keyboard\" folders. Double-click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" and change its Data Value to "1," to disable Number Lock on start-up. A value of "2" would turn the Number Lock on after you log in, while a "0" value would result in it turning off after you log in.
CHANGE THE DEFAULT NUMLOCK KEY b> Go to the Start menu. From the Start menu choose "Run." Type in "regedit." Hit "OK" to open the regedit application. This allows you to change your computer's default settings. Navigate to the keyboard's default settings. Using the navigation bar at the left, choose "HKey_Users" then "Default" then "Control Panel" and finally "Keyboard." Look at the right side of the window. On the right are the various default options you can change for your keyboard. Double click on "InitialKeyboardIndicators" to change the NumLock default. A window will pop up. Change the NumLock default by entering a 0 or 2 in the "Value Data" field. Enter a 0 to have the NumLock set to off by default. To set the NumLock to on by default, enter 2. Hit the "OK" button to save your changes. Restart you computer. Your NumLock default changes will not take effect until your computer has been restarted.
if the corresponding Numlock, Capslock, Scroll lock light are ON, then it says that the corresponding functions are activated...
For example if the Numlock light is ON, then you will be able to use your number pad... if caps lock light is ON, then you will be able to use the Capital letters...

There is no NumLock key on that keyboard. But you can switch it off by accessing the Windows on-screen keyboard. XP - Start - all programs - accessories - accessibility - on screen keyboard. The keyboard appears on screen with a NumLock key. Vista - smiliar commands to get the keyboard up.
Make sure your keyboard and mouse are plugged into the right USB ports on the switch. If you plug the keyboard into the mouse USB port the hotkeys will not work! The USB ports on the KVM switch are labeled under each port, with a mouse and keyboard icon respectively. From the Quick Start Guide/Manual:
The Numlock hotkeys are listed as:
[Num Lock]+[-] [1]
Switches to output 1
[Num Lock]+[-] [2]
Switches to output 2
[Numlock]+[-] [A]
Auto-scans and chooses which ever port is connected.
Alternatively: Tap [Scroll Lock] twice to automatically switch between ports.
Note: I've never been able to get the Numlock key combinations to work correctly. I always just use double-tap [Scroll Lock] trick to switch.
If you get stuck with your scroll-lock and Alpha lock lights flashing, just hit [Esc] to fix it.

On the Panasonic Toughbook CF-51 there is a key located on the top right next to the F12 function key called "NumLk" or Num Lock.
Press this key once and the embedded numeric keypad is enabled.
Press it a second time and it is disabled.
How do you know if it is enabled or disabled?
Simple: Observe the LED above the keyboard. If the second light with the square symbol and the number "1" is lit up, then the NumLock is enabled. If that LED is not lit up it is disabled.
Good Luck.

well, I have the same problem too, but finally I can fix this problem.
It's just very simple.
Can you see the OFFICE button, right on top of the F8 button and also on top of numlock green light (who is turned on if the numlock or caps lock active) ? Just press that button, then press the numlock button. Gotcha! The numlock light is turned on, right? Try to type some number on notepad with right side of your keyboard now.
Is this information helpful?
Thanks before
The kkkkkkkk problem will be a sticky key, possibly something jamming the contact under the key.
The p* problem is your numlock is on. Laptop keyboards don't have numeric keypads like dsktops do, so when you press numlock on, it uses part of the keyboard to emulate a keypad.
You will probably have to press something like shift+numlock or ctrl+numlock or FN+numlock to release it. There should also be a light at the top of the laptop to indicate it's in numlock mode.
