If the television works for normal television and playing DVDs, the problem is that your internet connection doesn't have the speed and bandwidth to live stream. You need a 25mbps supply, preferably 50mbps, mine is 125mbps for IPTV over a bonded phone line. You need more speed than you actually think you need.

Your simplest/easiest bet, depending on the age of your mac, and assuming that you don't have a smart TV with internet access already, would be to get yourself an APPLE TV. They run about $120 and you can use a feature called airplay to stream content right to it. Very handy indeed.
