Hi,

Please check whether the DVds that you're attempting to play are from a certain range of time (ie 10 years ago). If so, please attempt to play newer dvds. Or play older dvds if it's the opposite case. It might just be that the product itself is outdated if it's only playing dvds created a long while back.

A lot of DVD players are region specific ie. you cannot play US dvds in the UK or from Asia , depending on where the region code for the dvd player is set depends on which dvds are playable

My Sony DVD/VCR combo will play cds but not dvds. I took the top of the player off and I can see that the dvd spins but it won't play. It used to play everything very well but just stopped working...

Please clean laser lens with good quality cotton bud gently and check dvd disc playback, if still does not play, replace optical lens block.
Let me know model number of your Sony DVD-VCR combo to provide you optical laser block part number info.

After playing a cd in unit will no longer read DVDs

Had the same symptom. The unit would play CDs but not DVDs. The DVD laser was at fault. Purchased and replaced laser unit KHM-313AHC (ebay- $20) and it now works fine.

Does not play dvd copies

simple some actaully most portable dvd players just arent made to play copys or duplicates becaues they do not have the software for that kind of disc. so they instead can only play origanals dont worry my portable dvd player does this too

It will play CDs I've burned with pictures. It will play purchased DVDs, but not DVDs which I've copied from an orginal DVD taken with video camera. These aren't copyrighted DVDs.

You cannot play dvd's that are burnt meaning dvd-r or +r

If the lens is clean (clean with cotton swab and alcohol), then the optics are failing. DVDs require more power and accuracy to be read than CDs. The ability to read CDs but not DVDs is usually a good indication that the optics are starting to fail.

Dvd does not play

The problem is the laser. CDs and DVDs use a different frequency (color) of light. One can fail or weaken and the other still be strong. Check with Insignia for repair.

DVD Player freezes on some commercially produced DVDs

The microprocessor or memory componets on the player isnt functioning asits supposed too. This is rather troubling and there isnt any easy fixes possible.. My suggestion is seeing as its new return it and get a replacement. Chances are it will fail very soon.

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...

My Philips 55pfl5601/F7 Turns on but turns right off by itself When I power on the TV it comes on for a second shows the Philips logo on the screen but then shuts off after about 4 or 5 seconds.
