My Sony STR-DN850 IR will not work on receiver

My remote is showing the infrared light and I have a harmony universal remote with hub I had been using for years and all of the sudden neither one is working the receiver at all. The receiver seems to work mainly but I can't get it to do anything without it. I tried to get on the website for the harmony App to see if I could make it work through there and still can't get it to work. I have unplugged my receiver and kept it off die a long time. I checked the wiring and it seemed ok. Any help would be appreciated!!!! I don't want to get up to change the volume and my devices every time.. especially when rhe commercials get louder lol Thanks!!!

1. Check your receiver's input:

If you're having trouble getting your Sony STR-DN850 to play nice with your receiver, the first thing you should do is check the receiver's input.

Make sure that the receiver is set to the correct input for the Sony STR-DN850. If you're not sure, consult your receiver's manual.

2. Check your Sony STR-DN850's output:

Next, you'll want to check the Sony STR-DN850's output. There are a few things you can check here. First, make sure that the Sony STR-DN850 is set to output audio to your receiver. You can do this by going into the Sony STR-DN850's menu and checking the "Audio Out" setting. Second, make sure that the Sony STR-DN850 is outputting audio in the correct format.

If you're not sure, consult your Sony STR-DN850's manual.

3. Try a different receiver:

If you're still having trouble, you may want to try a different receiver. Sometimes, different receivers can play nicer with the Sony STR-DN850 than others. If you have a friend or family member with a receiver, see if you can borrow it for a few days to see if it makes a difference.

4. Check your receiver's remote:

Finally, if you're still having trouble, you may want to check your receiver's remote. Sometimes, the remote can be the culprit when it comes to receiver/Sony STR-DN850 compatibility issues.

Make sure that the remote is set to the correct input for the Sony STR-DN850 and that all the buttons are functioning properly. If you're still having trouble, you may need to consult your receiver's manual.

Try resetting the remote by removing the batteries and then replacing them. If that doesn't work, you can try resetting the remote by holding down the "Reset" button for five seconds.I hope this help! Good luck!

I have a Sony FM Stereo/FM-AM Receiver model STR-DE325 that will not respond to volume up or down on the remote control. All of the other buttons on the remote work as they should and all functions of the...

No, I don't think there is a motor that is supposed to turn the volume - I think the volume is a push button type with one button to increase and another for down that is pushed by a clever rotary mechanism or if it isn't exactly like that the principle is probably a similar use of pure electronics.

It is clear the link between the infrared receiver and decoder and the volume electronics is broken and it will probably need a service engineer to discover where and effect a repair.

How do you bi-pass a jbl subwoofer sb 400 to a sony str- dn850

If they both run the same ohms, why would you want to by-pass it? Just disconnect the sb 400 altogether and wire straight into the dn850. If the 850 is amplified (plugs into a wall outlet), however, you may wind up with some distortion, especially if the signal coming out of your receiver also is hot (amplified.)

HP TSGH-IR02 Remote Control how to install

This document pertains to HP Media Center computers with Windows XP, Media Center Edition.Use this document when the remote control does not work correctly with the Media Center software.Troubleshooting the remote controlUse the following items to troubleshoot when the remote control does not respond or when the remote control does not work properly. For example, when a key is pressed the selection moves all the way to the top or bottom of a list, or moves a selection many different places instead of the item you were trying to select. Before attempting these steps, make sure that PC has been updated with all of the latest Windows updates. Many updates for Media Center, like Update Rollup 1 for eHome Infrared Receiver, can be downloaded easily through the Windows Update software Tool.
Make sure that the batteries for the remote control are installed correctly and charged.Make sure that the front of the remote sensor is unobstructed, within a 45-degree range, and is less than 26 feet (8 meters) away. Disconnect all devices that use a USB connection except to the receiver, keyboard, and mouse. Restart the PC, and then try the remote again. If a pressed button repeats itself (sticks), unplug the IR receiver from its USB connection, wait one minute, and plug in the IR receiver. If the pressed buttons continue to repeat, alter the lighting conditions in the room or move the location of the IR receiver. Other remotes and HP Media Center PCs within range can also cause this issue.Try pressing the Enter key on the remote after changing a channel. If the remote control works when using the media center software, but does not work when changing the television channels, re-configure the Media Center software settings for the cable set-top box or satellite receiver
Point the remote control towards the IR receiver and press a button. A faint red light should appear on the IR receiver. If the light appears, then the problem is probably in the software that is using the remote control (most likely the configuration of the Media Center software). Close the software, restart the computer, and then re-open the software to solve this issue.

Troubleshooting the IR receiverThe IR receiver is the small device that receives the signals sent by the remote control. Use the following steps to test and reset the IR receiver.Disconnect the IR receiver from its USB port on the computer, maximize the Media Center window if it is open, and then reconnect the IR receiver. Test again.Point the remote control towards the IR receiver and press a button. A faint red light should appear on the IR receiver. If the light appears, then the problem is probably in the software that is using the IR receiver (most likely the Media Center software). Close the software, restart the computer, and then re-open the software to solve this issue.Click Start , right-click My Computer , and then select Properties .Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.Click the plus sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers. If the eHome Infrared Receiver is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers, Windows is properly detecting the IR receiver. If eHome Infrared Receiver is not in the list, or there is an exclamation mark or a question mark on the device, perform the following until eHome Infrared Receiver appears correct in Device manager:Unplug the end of the USB cable on the IR receiver from the computer and plug it into the same USB port.Plug the end of the USB cable on the IR receiver into the front USB port on the computer.Disconnect all other USB devices, leave the IR receiver plugged in, and then restart the computer. Plug in other USB devices after the IR receiver shows up in device manager.Figure 1: IR receiver listing in Device Manager

I have a radioshack gamer 15-133 controller and i want to use it on my ps3, how do i?

Hi! Sorry, but this is not possible. The PS3 uses Bluetooth technology for its controllers and remote controls. The Radioshack Gamer Remote 15-133 is an Infrared (IR) device and will only work with specific units that support IR remote controls(PC, Playstation 2/PS2 and XBOX 360.). Click the TECH SPECS tab on this link for more info.
If you are looking for an affordable universal remote that uses both Bluetooth and IR and will control a PS3, there is only one currently available on the market. It is the INTERLINK VP3700 Universal Infrared / Bluetooth Remote Control for PlayStation 3 and it is available at NewEgg.com among other online retailers. Here is the link for it for more information and to order it. Please note, if you click the Feedback tab, the first review written by TV-Tastic, is my review of it. I have had three of these (the first two destroyed by my then one, now two year-old son who chews rubber buttons off everything) and it is a fantastic remote control especially for the money.

The only other Universal Remote option you have is to purchase a Logitech Harmony Remote Control (minimum $75.00) and the additional Logitech PS3 Adapter for the Harmony Remote controls ($45.00) which involves complicated setup and extra piece of equipment for about $115.00.
Good luck.

Received new DirecTV HR-21-100 PVR, tried to set up device in remote, now nothing works

Your DirecTV device is probably set on RF (Radio Frequency), which the Harmony can't use. You will need to set it to IR (Infrared) for the Logitech remote to control it.

1. On the original DirecTV remote press the Menu button
2. From the Menu press Select on Settings
3. Select Remote from the left menu
4. Press Select on the IR/RF Setup button
5. Use the Up or Down arrows to change from RF to IR
6. Press Select to save

Why want the remote recognize my directv HR22 remote

Hi. A lot of DirecTV remotes actually use UHF, which is a form of RF. The Harmony remote can only send and capture IR (infrared) commands. Make sure you have your DirecTV device set to receive IR, and if you have an IR remote, or can set your remote to IR, then it will work.

Harmony One remote won't input channels very well

Most DirecTV receivers are able to be controlled with IR (infrared) or RF (Radio Frequency) signals. DirecTV receivers are usually set to be controlled by RF.

To control a DirecTV PVR / Satellite, it needs to be set to respond to an IR Remote:
1. On the original DirecTV remote press the Menu button
2. From the Menu press Select on Settings
3. Select Remote from the left menu
4. Press Select on the IR/RF Setup button
5. Use the Up or Down arrows to change from RF to IR
6. Press Select to save

Note: Some models of DirecTV may have different steps to enable IR. You may need to refer to your user manual

Harmony Remotes only control IR signals. so this is not the issue. The Harmony Remote should control the tv. the original remotr needs to be tested for IR or RF.

The device we are working on that is not being controlled by the Harmony Remote could be operating on RF (Radio Frequency) signals. Harmony Remote can only control the devices that operate on IR (Infrared) signals. Most devices that work on RF signals can be changed to operate on IR signals, and this usually could be done by changing the remote control command mode to IR from RF.
Please follow the steps listed below to test to see if the device is being operated on RF or IR signal:
1- We need to use the original remote for that device to complete this task
2- Using your hand or a thick and wide object (wall, pillow, book...), cover the top part of the original remote. In other words block the direct positioning between the original remote and the device.
3- After you cover the top part of the original remote (or used an alternate way to block the direct communication of the original remote and the device), try pressing the buttons on the original remote to see if it can still send commands that can be received by the original remote. You can try powering on/off your device using the original remote when the original remote is being blocked by your hand or another object.
4- If you still can control the device using the original remote without a point of sight, your device is being operated on RF signals. If you cannot control the device without a point of sight, then it is IR operated.
5- If the device is RF operated, please change the command receiving mode to IR rather than RF and test the Harmony Remote.
6- If the device is IR operated, please contact us again by replying to this email and let us know if none of the commands or some certain commands are not working for that device.

You can usually find the information on how to switch the device to be operated on IR signals rather than RF signals, through the user manual for your device, or by contacting technical support of the manufacturer for that device, or even sometimes reaching the information simply by doing a basic research over the internet.

Remote control won't work

Could need a new ir sensor or repair solder connections on the display (ir) board. You can check that the remote is putting out a signal by viewing it with a camcorder, turn the camera on look through the viewfinder and point the remote at it push a button. If it is working you will see a flashing light on the remote.
