I have an onan 5500 gas generator in my travel trailor and it wont start. It has sat for about a year. I tried flushing the old gas with new gas but it won't fire.
What is the model? Chances are the carb needs cleaning or replaced.
The Onan gasoline generator must be started every two to three months to prevent the carburetor from gumming up. The only possible fix is disconnect fuel line and make sure fuel pump is working. Then force carburetor cleaner through gas line inlet to dissolve and remove deposits. Use pressurized can solvents to push cleaner through the carburetor. SeaFoam CRC and others make good carb cleaners. Reconnect gas line and try to start but be careful of fire hazards with carb cleaner and gasoline fumes.
