2004 w209 CLK Cabrio. Conv. top always "in operation"

First, inspect the top to make sure there is no damage or any other issues causing the top to not properly seal. If the top appears to be working correctly, check the fuse box to make sure all fuses are in working order. If any of the fuses related to the convertible top are not working, replace them. Check the wiring harnesses to make sure they are connected properly and there are no issues

But your best bet is to take your car to a professional specialist to diagnose the issue and make the repairs. It could be a damaged mechanism, that needs to be repaired or replaced, or a wiring issue that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. It is best to have a technician properly diagnose the issue so that you can get the repair done right.

I have a 2007 Ford Mustang convertible. The top will not go down. I have replaced the up, down switch, the 2 relays and the hydraulic pump. When I press the down switch it rolls all the windows down but...

There are only Two things in the right rear the pump motor and the top ajar switch. This sounds like the motor is locked up or the top is jammed or going the wrong way. First disconnect the motor and if the noise stops it's the hydraulic unit trying to move the top watch the top to make sure it's going the right way, the top ajar switch could be bad. If you're confident in the hydraulic unit and motor the only thing left is a jammed top, a bad connection at the hydraulic unit, or the top ajar switch. I hope this helps. Take care.

I have a 2007 mustang convertible top that will not go down. with key on windows go to park down position but no hydraulic pump sound checking fuses to ensure good power. where should i begin?

Principles of Operation
Convertible top operation is controlled by the smart junction box (SJB). When the convertible top raise/lower switch is operated, the SJB commands the front and rear windows to the full down position. Window operation is disabled while the convertible top raise/lower switch is being operated. When the SJB receives a full down input for both rear windows, it commands the appropriate relay closed to raise or lower the convertible top. If the SJB does not receive a full down input signal for both rear windows, the convertible top operation is disabled.

The convertible top hydraulic system uses a 12 volt reversible pump and motor assembly. When active, the pump uses hydraulic pressure to extend the hydraulic lift cylinders to raise the convertible top, or retract the hydraulic lift cylinders to lower the convertible top. The convertible top motor/pump assembly is equipped with a thermal circuit breaker. The circuit breaker typically resets after 5 minutes depending on the ambient temperature. The thermal circuit breaker cannot be repaired and must be installed as a unit with the motor/pump assembly. In the event of a hydraulic system failure, the convertible top cannot be operated manually.

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.

LISTEN FOR HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR OPERATION IN THE TRUNK AREA..IF YES YOU HEAR HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR RUNNING MAKING A NOISE.CHECK HYDRALIC PUMP FLUID LEVEL BY REMOVING THE SCREW TYPE CHECK PLUG.PLACE RAGS UNDER THE CHECK PLUG.AND UNSCREW REMOVE THE CHECK PLUG. FLUID SHOULD BE 1/4 INCH BELOW THE CHECK PLUG HOLE.IF FLUID IS LOW ADD FLUID UNTIL FLUID LEVEL 1/4 INCH FROM THE PLUG HOLE.IF HYDRALIC FLUID WAS WAY LOW YOU NEED TO BLEED AIR OUT OF THE SYSTEM.MAKE SURE FLUID LEVEL CORRECT.START ENGINE AND TRY RAISING AND LOWER THE CONVERTIBLE TOP USING THE SWITCH.IF TOO MUCH AIR GOT IN SYSTEM.HAVE A HELPER WORK UP AND DOWN CONTROL SWITCH WHILE YOU MANUAL OPEN CLOSE CONVERTIBLE TOP BY HANDS BLEEDING AIR OUT OF SYSTEM.KEEP EYE ON HYDRALIC FLUID LEVEL WHILE BLEEDING THE SYSTEM..LOWER THE TOP AND TURN OFF ENGINE. BEFORE OPENING THE HYDRALIC PUMP FLUID CHECK PLUG BECAUSE FLUID WILL SPRAY EVERY WHERE..IF HYDRALIC PUMP CHECK OUT OKAY AND YOU DO NOT HEAR NO HYDRALIC PUMP NOISE.POWER IS GOING TO HYDRALIC PUMP.EITHER HYDRALIC PUMP MOTOR FAULTY OR FAULTY HYDRALIC PUMP RELAY BEST TO LET MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP CHECK IT OUT...

99 SAAB convertible, top takes a long time to open and close now.

The most common reason for this is low hydraulic fluid. The noise is probably the pump running while empty. When fluid id present it dampens that noise. Behind the rear seat is the combination motor/pump/reservoir. With the top in the DOWN position, fill the reservoir with ATF and cycle the system a few times as far as it will go. Repeat until the reservoir will take no more fluid. If that works, it is only a patch fix. You must now inspect the lines, motor and cylinders for leaks. The fluid does not evaporate. If it is low, you have a leak. Karl at topgunwon.com
