I have a X52 pro. Throttle works fine, but the lights on the stick are constanly flashing and the stick doesn't work

if your X52 is less than 2 years old and you have the receipt, it's under warranty. Call Saitek and they will take it back and fix it (no charge). Mine is more than 2 years old so I am out of luck.

According to the manual you can choose your profile by using the clutch function. Are the profiles that you downloaded of the same file type as the one you have been able to make from scratch?

The official Saitek website only has the drivers for the X52 Pro and so though I only have the standard X52 (not the pro), I used the Pro driver and software. The profile editor does list the standard X52...

Yes it is compatible with windows vista. It is a plug and play device and should install itself as soon as you plug it in without the need of installing drivers from the included cd.

II JUST BOUGHT A NEW THRUSTMASTER T.FLIGHT HOTAS X

I'm not sure which version of windows your using and I can't say for sure on version above Windows XP. You should be able to go to "Add & Remove Programs", sellect "Add & Remove Windows Components". Remove the drivers for the joysticks, reboot your machine then using the same process add the drivers again. This should reinstall the drivers without having to fully reinstall windows.
If this doesn't work, again depending on your version of Windows you should be able to do a "Repair" install instead of a "Full" install this way you won't loose everything. For full details on how to do this go to microsoft.com and search their knowledge base for "Windows install options" or "Windows repair"

The driver download should solve this problem.
if not it could be campatability problem for your software and you should read up on that,,,:)

If all else fails maybe your hardware is no good and return it.
