Nikon D40 screen loop, can't use it

Recently I found a Nikon D40 in a old bag. When I tried to turn it on the camera go into a loop. The screen show a blinking yellow hourglass, and the camera never turn on. How can I fix it?

Hi,

Please make sure that the camera has an SD card inserted into it. If it does, then you might have to switch out the current card for a new one.

I realize these aren't the answers you wanted to see, but the D40 does not have any live view capability, nor does it shoot video. Nikon intended the D40 as an entry-level dSLR, with a minimal feature set. In fact, they didn't introduce the video until the D90, introduced more than two years after the D40. The least-expensive Nikon dSLR with both of these capabilities is the D5000.

the d40 does not have live view. you would need to get a different camera.

Histogram pops up on Nikon D40

When you are viewing images with the histogram showing, press the down arrow on the command dial and the screens will scroll through various overlays until you reach the viewing screen you want.

The Autofocus does not work on my Nikon D40

1 Possiable dirty lens contact terminals
2 Auto focus motor in lens is jamed/malfuntion
3 Auto focus engagement pin on camera body is not engaging the lens
4 Correct lens,old nikon lens and some 3rd party lens wont work on the D40

You have a short in your button board in your camera or a bad button board. Send into Nikon to repair. You can also look on Ebay for the part if your technical skills are up to self repair.

A new CCD for £128 - that is a total bargain. If you think you can buy a camera half as good as the D40 for RM750 you are deluded... although I agree that the CCD shouldn't have gone in such a short time - I would guess that Nikon UK would have repaired it on good faith - as long as the camera was obviously in otherwise good condition.

Nikon D40 SLR 6MP 18-55 Lens

I son't know how to turn a camera into an IR camera but I did find a website that shows you how to make a filter that allows you to take IR photos. You can make the filter yourself for free unless you don't have the items needed but then again the item needed are only a couple of dollars. Here is the link.
