Humming is the classic symptom of a Start/Run Capacitor that has failed. It gives the motor a jolt to get it going.

Just a little puzzled why spin works though :>/

What is the complete model number of your unit?

IF THE MOTOR DOES NOT RUN CHECK THE LID SWITCH. IF YOU HEAR IT RUNNING YOU MAY HAVE A BAD COUPLER.

There are plastic parts called "dogs" that need replaced. They are inexpensive and not hard to do.

LID SWITCH or wiring to lid switch.

Replace the coupler between the motor and pump. Coupler about 18.00 dollars at Sears parts store.

remove the agitator cap there is a 7/16 bolt in the top of the agitator remove it remove the agitator there are 4 little plastic teeth like pices in the top of the agitator call agitator dogs they are warn out. seperate the agitator remove and replace the dogs then put back together machine should work fine
