As part of the security system is embedded in the engine management ECU (ECM) the ECU has to recognise the code sent from the immobiliser before it will switch on and perform its functions.

Sometimes when ordering a replacement ECU using the vin from the dealer it will arrive programmed with the correct code but this is unlikely with aftermarket replacements and consequently reprogramming of the system will be required.

The battery light coming on means you have to check your charging system very soon, right away is good. It doesn't necessarily mean you need to replace your battery. Get both the battery and the alternator tested because the battery could be low if the alternator is not charging properly. Hope this helps.
