Pioneer model PL-950 turntable stylus/needle help please

I have a pioneer model PL- 950 and my needle is broke the PN- 5mc Stylist is no longer available at least not that I can find for a price that is not worth more than the whole system. Is there an alternative needle that will work with that system that is relatively Expensive? Please help me

KNOW most technical words , as in difference of CARTRIDGE OR stylus (or needle) inside it, are not used clearly

I don't know what needle is needed for my pioneer turntable PL-X88Z?

You just need to look at the cartridge and look for the make and model number. Once you have that you can search Google for it and the stylus will also show up.

It is seldom worth just replacing a needle. It's not much more expensive to replace the whole cartridge. Easily available online - search by make and model number on Amazon

I suddenly heard alot of distortion when playing the Pioneer PL-990 turntable. Wonder if replacing the needle may take care of the problem.

Depends on the circumstances. Is it only when you play it loud? Air- or room-borne vibrations will feed back through the TT to the speakers. Keep the volume down to avoid it.

If you call the stylus a 'needle', replacing it maybe beyond your capabilities. There are lots of reasons for TT sound to be less than perfect and arbitrarily replacing things can do more harm or introduce new problems. Take it to someone experienced and equipped to evaluate the issue.

Tonearm balance, antiskating, dirty stylus, feedback.
