Sony MDS JA3ES reads TOC perfectly, but does not play

When putting in a disc, the TOC reads perfectly. Play does not start and I can hear a wizzing sound. When skipping to a number on the disc the laser does not move. But if I turn the laser pickup gear manually to the end, the laser pick-up will return to the start position. So the motor seems to be in good order. I also have cleaned the lens with a cotton bud and IPA.

The laser may need to be replaced and there is a problem with the laser also.Or the Laser needs to be readjusted.

Not recording anymore
After you press the 'record' button the Minidisc unit is still in "pause mode" - you can hear the music and see the meters move, but notice that the time isn't moving until you press "Play" - then it will start recording. Is the time changing when you go to play it back? You might have left the MD in 'pause' perhaps?

hi there is nothing to do by yourself. you need to take your md player to the next authorized service. seems the optical device that reads the discs has worn out, compareable to turntables you need to change the `needle` ;)

Your owners manual (you DID read your owners manual, right?) says the machine cannot read the TOC on the disc.

It might be a disc problem and it might be a deck problem?

Have you tried a different minidisc?

Have you changed any of the SET-UP settings? Take a look at them, too.

You may have the disc shutter closed preventing recording. You should never interrupt the recorder when it is trying to write to disc, you probably corrupted the table of contents (TOC) on the disc and need to reformat it to use it again.
If your deck is older you may have worn out the recording heads preventing it from writing to the disc in the worst case.

Make sure the "TIMER" "Rec"/"off"/"Play" switch is set to "OFF".
Then press power, and you should be in business as soon as it read the TOC on the disc. Without any disc inserted, it should go straight to being ready.

Jb 940 md player. Recording a full disc, always results in playback stopping around 38 mins. previously recorded discs will play back ok, so suspect record process not completing. When played in spare...
When you get done recording, do you wait until the "TOC" light stops flashing? If you cut off power before the Table Of Contents is written, then it can't find all your music. Even if you eject, it should still flash a little red TOC or UPDATE before it spits the disc out. Check for that. okay?

Mini Disc Not Working
Pull the power cord. Make sure the three-position switch with "REC/Standby/PLAY" is in the middle position, then plug the cord back in. Wait a minute, then press POWER. Now load a disk and wait 1 minute for it to read the Table of Contents (TOC). Either it will show the tracks, or it will say 'empty disk'. Let us know what happens from there, okay?
