My Intex Sand Filter 3000 gph has low flowrate during backwash and rince. There is no difference when I turn pump on while in backwash. Flow stays the same low flow.

when mine does this, I open the skimmer cover until I can hear air escaping. Let some air out and then turn the cover back on. Also I will turn the valve open on the intake hose and then put back on. Just keep doing things like that to get the water flow started. It eventually starts.
I have the same problem and put a 1HP pump on my system and too much flow. So you can not increase by that much. Need to stay at 1/2 HP and they are impossible to find. End up buying whole new intex system.
Hi April, re your problem, I reccomend that you may need to change the sand in your sand filter or if you are able to backwash the filter if it's in service with the pool. The worse case senario is to just dissmantle the sand filter empy out all the sand and check that all the parts are clean and not blocked there is a diffuser that the water is dispursed trough check all the holes.
Hope this helps.
Steve
The low flow could be caused by a clogged filter. If you have a sand filter and the pressure gauge is reading a high pressure then turn the control valve to Backwash the sand filter until the water is clear in the waste pipe (usually for 2 to 3 mins). then turn the control valve to Rinse for about 1 min then turn the control valve to Filter.
during normal operation, your multiport valve should be in the "FILTER" position.
Once the pressure in the filter reaches 10psi more than what it was when the filter was clean, you should backwash. turn the pump off, press down and turn the multiport valve to backwash. turn the pump on and watch the effluent water until it goes from dirty to clean. Then place the multiport valve to the rinse position, this will rinse any remaining dirt from the top of the filter and valves so that it does not return to the pool. Once the water comes out clean, return the valve to the filter position.
Do not turn the valve while the pump is on, always make sure to turn the pump off before servicing any equipment.
