If you have a Gen I Masterbuilt Digital Electric Smoker. To sync the remote, proceed as follows:
1.Unplug your unit, wait about 10 seconds, plug the unit back in and then start the syncing process over.
2. Turn controller and remote "on"
3. Press and hold "SET TEMP" on controller for 3 seconds (Hold it until you hear a beep)
4. On the Remote press "MEAT PROBE, LIGHT, MEAT PROBE, LIGHT"
( All buttons must be pressed within 5 seconds of each other) A short beep will occur after each button press.)
TIP: if that does not work unplug smoker for 10 seconds to allow control panel to reset and try again.
Remove the metal plate cover at the back and check that the wires to the element are well connected and that the element are in good condition, if they are corroded you may need to replace them. https://www.yaoawe.com/collections/masterbuilt-heating-element

Before trying any of the lengthy suggestions regarding repairs on Masterbuilt electric smokers, consider this. It APPEARS (based on testing, not reverse engineering) that Masterbuilt designed the controller on my unit (140S) to error out below a certain minimum temperature. If you are like me and have your smoker outside (as you should), but in sub freezing temperatures, you too may get this error. Just shoot the short temperature probe (on the back wall of the cabinet) with a hair dryer for a minute or two. Then plug back in for no error (assuming you do not have an actual wiring or probe failure). Just make sure to immediately start it heating before it drops too low again...
If this was by design, shame on Masterbuilt! If this was by error, shame on their engineers! If this behaviour is due to an intermittent problem with my unit, shame on me for not fully testing all possibilities once I found an easy fix...
Your heating element is now probably inop. You'll have to go onto masterbuilt.com and order another element. Try this site: http://www.masterbuilt.com/pm-smokers.html
I had the same problem this morning. I seasoned it two days agao with an outside temp. of 50. This morning it was 8 degrees and when I pluged it in there was no readout. I removed the digital unit from the top and heated it with a hair drier and it worked when I reinstalled it. I think it had some moisture in it although the unit has been covered the whole time. I am going to call Masterbuilt tomarrow and see what their answer is to this problem.
