My 1999 Pontiac Montana power sliding door on passenger side will not open. You can push the button and it will pop open like it's going to open but will not slide open. Any ideas?

The power sliding door (PSD) includes several interconnected electronic and mechanical components. Obtain a specific customer concern in order to efficiently diagnose and repair the PSD system. Begin diagnosis with a service writer. Ask the customer for as much detail as possible regarding the conditions under which a failure of the door was noticed. Always include the basic concern, such as "door reverses when closing". The following details might affect the performance of the PSD:
?€¢
Weather conditions, such as snow or heavy ice

?€¢
The van was parked on an incline.

?€¢
The van has been parked for a long time, which may cause a weak battery.

Refer to Power Sliding Door Customer Concerns for diagnosis. Verify that all of the mechanical components of the PSD are aligned and operating correctly before you begin diagnosis of the electrical system. The electrical components cannot operate correctly if the mechanical components are not operating correctly.
I just checked out a 1999 Oldsmobile Silhoutte yesterday , same set up there is a cable inside hooked to a motor that opens the door. The one yesterday had the cable hanging out the back of the sliding door , does yours ?
Does it open manually ? There are electronics involved , sensors ,switches , a module an a electric motor .

The amount of force necessary in order to reverse the PSD depends on the position of the sliding door at the time of obstruction. The PSD action may not reverse if the following actions occur:

  1. The PSD starts to close.
  2. A gradually increasing force is applied on the sliding door in an effort to reverse the operation.
The PSD control module may interpret the gradually increasing resistance as a corrosive or dirty track. The PSD control module compensates for the gradual resistance on the sliding door by applying more power to the cable motor when closing the sliding door. In order to reverse the PSD at this stage of the sliding door travel, an abrupt and firm force is required.
The PSD control module operates in this manner in order to compensate for the wear over the life of the PSD. Over time the vehicle may experience the following conditions:
?€¢
A dirty track

?€¢
A corrosive track

?€¢
Ice build-up on the track (during cold weather)

The PSD control module is more sensitive to obstructions near the end of the sliding door close operation. The amount of force necessary in order to reverse the sliding door travel is less than when the sliding door started to close.
When the sliding door is within 2.5 cm (1.0 in) of the closed position, the door lock latch switch sends a signal to the PSD control module. The PSD control module determines that the sliding door is in the unlatched (ajar) position. This action causes the control module to apply full power to the cable motor in order to bring the sliding door to the fully closed (latched) position. The sliding door will close unless the force is greater than the cable motor at full power. The PSD control module de-energizes the cable motor and the clutch when the PSD control module receives a second signal from the door lock latch switch. The second signal indicates that the sliding door is fully closed and latched.
Power Sliding Door (PSD)
The power sliding door (PSD) provides built-in diagnostics. This assists the service technicians during troubleshooting.
The PSD has the following diagnostic capabilities:
?€¢
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

?€¢
Input/output tests

I would like to know to reverse the door on my dryer

Not all dryers have reversible doors, but most do. This varies from model to model, but the owners manual should have a description to accomplish it. Some models simply flip over using a matching set of screw holes on the opposite side of the door opening while others will require you to disassemble the door and switch parts around to achieve a mirror image of the assembly that will hinge from the opposite side. The latch pin/receiver (on the cabinet) will also need to be addressed as it holds the door tightly closed.

I have ane electrolux dryer with reversible doors. I would like to keep the door opening to the left, but it hits the wall. Is it possible to adjust the door to make it stop before hitting the wall?

Hi Wendy, this is AP
I understand you want to reverse the door opening on your Electrolux dryer. I would be happy to assist you with those instructions. Are you able to provide the model number for your dryer? If this is a new dryer you may visit the manufacture website, locate your appliance, scroll down to bottom and you will see a listing of documents available, the installation instruction manual will have the reversal instructions listed. . I hope this information helps to some degree - thanks for your question, and please do not hesitate to reconnect if you have additional information regarding your question.

Thank you,

My door will not shut

Is the latch and strike still intact ? If it is, you should hear or feel a distinct "click" when closing the door. if that is ok but the door simply won't stay latched, I'd suspect a bent door or hinge assembly. if it isn't ok, you can get a latch and strike in a kit #279570, the most common kit for kenmore/whirlpool dryers over the past 30-35yrs. or so. It will also work in most other makes too. your unit may also have a "spare" latch built into it for door reversal, but not the "strike". you may be able to straighten the door or hinge by removing the door and examining what's bent and correct it. either way, you need to first identify what is bent/or out of alignment.

hope that helps

good luck.

Change the door direction on Kenmore 600 dryer

hi there. this is an easy fix. just take a close look at the hinges and screws on the door. note the size of the screws and the type of screw [usually phillips].

Now look at the other side of the door and the frame and you will see little plastic caps. pry those off. those are the screw holes to allow you to reverse the door.

now just unscrew the door and the latch and reverse everything... enjoy.

Won

It appears your lid switch/door latch has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Washing machine doors

Electrolux has a reversible door for both front load washer and dryer. Just found that out at HHGregg because we need to put our washer to the right of the dryer, and none of the other makes will allow the washer door swing to be switched.
