Have recently changed to Verizon FIOS(cable) for my Internet service. Prior to that I was using Verizon DSL. I have a laptop running XP and a desktop running Vista. With the DSL service the two computers were networked with no issues. However, with the FIOS service my computers will no longer network. I have done all steps recommended by Microsoft, and Verizon said it could not be with their equipment. I disagree with that because the only thing that changed is the Verizon equipment. Any ideas?
FIOS and DSL use different modems and or gateway devices. Sounds like you were using a DSL gateway device with networking setup and when you moved to FIOS, the tech did not duplicate your network on your new FIOS gateway. OR you had a 3rd party router e.g. Linksys that was removed from the setup when FIOS was installed.
Either way, Verizon is who you should contact. Just tell them your network went down after you moved from DSL to FIOS. Dont mention Microsoft or Livewebtv.
Try these things to troubleshoot network connection issues in Windows 10.
Use the Network troubleshooter
Make sure Wi-Fi is on.
See if you can use the Wi-Fi to get to websites from a different device.
If your Surface still isn't connecting, try the steps on Surface can't find my wireless network.
