Windows Networking Issue

Have recently changed to Verizon FIOS(cable) for my Internet service. Prior to that I was using Verizon DSL. I have a laptop running XP and a desktop running Vista. With the DSL service the two computers were networked with no issues. However, with the FIOS service my computers will no longer network. I have done all steps recommended by Microsoft, and Verizon said it could not be with their equipment. I disagree with that because the only thing that changed is the Verizon equipment. Any ideas?

FIOS and DSL use different modems and or gateway devices. Sounds like you were using a DSL gateway device with networking setup and when you moved to FIOS, the tech did not duplicate your network on your new FIOS gateway. OR you had a 3rd party router e.g. Linksys that was removed from the setup when FIOS was installed.
Either way, Verizon is who you should contact. Just tell them your network went down after you moved from DSL to FIOS. Dont mention Microsoft or Livewebtv.

Quick fix. Get rid of slow cable.
Go to Verizon FiOS if you can for the same services, but much faster and Verizon service is unparalleled.
I have DSL here where there is neither option.
Folks who have FiOS love it.

How do i conect my windows xp to the internet?

I'm not sure what you mean by "connect your windows XP to the internet" Windows XP is an operating system for a computer To connect a computer to the internet, You need a service provider that provides Internet service such as your local cable company. They will install the necessary equipment to connect your computer to the internet. Verizon provides FIOS service in selected areas. These providers provide broadband service
"Comparing Cable and DSL. You can connect to the internet using a modem. Two most widely used broadband modems that transmit analog information and convert it to digital for these purposes are DSL and cable, each with different benefits. Most notably, both are faster than dial-up.".
Dial up service is the least expensive of the services , but it tends to be slower in all aspects of internet service.

The prior owner of my house had verizon fios, the fios wiring is in basement as well as junction box for telephone (gray box) I have unplugged the ac power plug to the fios as I am not using their service....

you're better off calling verizon to remove it.
but no, it uses your power ... not anything from the street. fiber optic cable is made of glass and does not conduct electricity.

Yes i want to find out if a cable modem will work with your dsl phone internet service?

No.

A cable-modem connects with a coax-cable to the cable-company's network, but a DSL-modem connects with telephone-cable to the telephone-company's network.

I already have verizon internet"fios' how ever i want to purchas cable for my hd tv

Usually Verizon can offer HD TV over the same FIOS cable. If you call them, they can connect it to your TV for you.

If you call the cable company they can probably set up cable for you. The two shouldn't interfere with each other.

The battle: Acer Vs. Verizon FiOS

Verizon needs to apply a firmware update for the Atheros wireless adapter in your notebook. I work for Acer and I end up having to tell people this all day long. If you take this to a wireless router that is not from verizon you will have no problems with your connection. Maybe if enough Fios customers complain they will provide a firmware update for this.
