Try the battery in another Ryobi to see if it works.
If it does not work it may have been effected when the trimmer burnt out.
time to buy a new battery.
if it is brand new (out of the box new) it will still be covered by warranty
it sounds like there is a problem in the ignition module and when it gets hot it is failing
take it back to the shop or an authorised service agent for a warranty check /replacement
Ryobi Trimmers unscrew halfway down the shaft (so it fits in the box). If this gets loose, the trimmer will stop working. Simply tighten the connection between the upper and lower half.
You sure the battery is fully charged. A bad battery will run a bit and then stop providing enough power. Then if you wait it will have "rested" and work another tad. Then rest again.
Almost sure that your battery is bogus.
Sounds as if the issue is related to heat. Possible ignition failure when hot. (I see that alot in my shop.) If the unit is new take it to an AUTHORIZED repair shop and it should cost you nothing. Locate your nearest repair shop HERE.
Carburetor high speed adjustment ( screw nearest the filter ) open ( counterclockwise ) 1/2 turn. Adjust again as needed to run when hot. make sure the gas mixture ratio is as required. Henry
The next time you run the trimmer and it starts to die, loosen the gas cap. It should start to run again. This means that the gas cap is clogged. Either clear the gas cap or buy a new one. This should solve the problem.
I don't mean to over simplify this, but are you using fresh gas? Gas string trimmers are extremely ticky when it comes to gas. They like it SUPER fresh. And while the gas and oil mixture should be right, it can be off a little bit and still run. Try draining all of the gas out, and then filling up with fresh mix. This is ALWAYS my first step with string trimmers, and it fixes the problem 75% of the time.
Hope this helps!!
