Zm400 is printing white lines through all the labels

Replaced the ribbon and now it is printing white lines through the barcodes. I believe it's a ribbon error but I don't know how to fix it. Seems like the ribbon doesn't have enough tension and it's causing it to wrinkle? It was working perfectly fine before.

First of all, the white lines on all the labels - are they always in the same place? Over multiple labels? If so, then it could be a printhead issue, where the printhead could have some damaged heating elements.

If not, and the white lines on the label are positioned differently, then it could be a ribbon issue.

When you look at the ribbon, while the labels are coming out, do you see a crease or the ribbon being folded over in a certain section?

If that's the case, then you need to remove the ribbon roll and put it back in place, and make sure to thread the ribbon without adding any creases.

To check if its a printhead issue, then lift the printhead up and take a look at where the heating elements are. A bad printhead could have some white patches or some black patches along the thin line where the printheads contacts the ribbon and the paper. Try to clean the printhead with a lint free cloth and try a print again. If that doesn't help, or the lines are in the same spot on multiple identical labels, even after cleaning, then you will need to replace the printhead.

Take a look at our blog post where we show what bad printhead labels would look like.

Barcode scanner won't read printed labels

1. The printhead in your printer might be scratched (evidenced by thin white streaks through your print). This is common, and the most likely cause. Printhead must be replaced.
2. Material might be stuck on your printhead (usually evidenced by wide white streak vertically through print). Printing surface of printhead can be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and cotton ball.
3. The ribbon might be wrinkling due to uneven tension, producing intermittent diagonal streaks in your print. This is somewhat common, but doesn't fit your description as well as 1 & 2 above. Mechanical adjustment and/or proper media loading solves ribbon wrinkles.
4. Poor pressure and/or printhead alignment. Evidenced by grainy, light or no print on one side or the other of the media. This is somewhat common, but doesn't fit your description as well as 1 & 2 above. Mechanical adjustment solves printhead pressure and alignment issues.

Zm400 label jam

Hi

Do not use a tool you may damage the printhead which will cost ofver 300 pounds to replace. First get what you can off with your fingers, then use IPA swabs or cotton cloth soaked with white spirit to gently and patiently remove the remains of the label and any adhesive residue.

Intermec PX4i label printer. Paper/Ribbon loaded correctly, but ribbon is 'rippled' meaning barcode label being printed has white lines across it. Any ideas?

Ribbon Wrinkle as it called can be caused due to the main feed rollers (that touch the ribbon or the label) being slightly worn. Even if you have a sligh gradient on the roller(s) it will pull ever so slightly to one side. If you need the parts then please do not hesitate to contavct me. Jack Woodworth - Codeo UK, 01179064587

Will not print onto the label. but can see it on the black ribbon reel.

Perhaps your darkness is set too low, or your labels are not coated to accept thermal transfer printing. Let me know if this helps!

After About 10 tickets a white line will start showing up in the

If printing with ribbon, check to see if you have ribbon burnt onto the printhead. If so, lower the temp of the heat on print. Or you can speed up the print speed.
I have seen this happen alot when the ambient temp is low, and the printer tries to make up for the differences in temperature.
Check the hed first..
