Is the
compressor overheating when this happens? Feel the top of the compressor when
this is happening and tell me if the top of the compressor becomes extremely
hot to the point that you cannot keep your hand on the compressor. Reason I ask
you to do this is that it is possible that the compressor is short cycling because
of a defective start relay and/or run capacitor. Let me know if the compressor is overheating of simply turning itself off. I will post a service manual if interested but would like to e-mail you the service manual for your Hoshizaki KM-255BAH because of copyright issues. You may contact me HERE if you like. Thanks Sea Breeze
cycle is, fill cycle for 1 minute first. If there is not water entering the unit when first turned on, look for that issue. Water turned off, water valve not working or some restriction, clogged water filters, etc. That is got to happen first. Don't over look the bin stat being bad. Nothing happens if teh bin stat is bad. It sends voltage to the control board that runs the unit.
when the machine first starts, it begins it's cycle in the harvest mode. If the float switch is stuck, it stays in the fill/ harvest mode. Compressor runs and water circulates but no ice is being made. I'd start looking there. Turn the machine on, let it run for about 3 minutes, they very lightly tap the float switch. If it starts making ice, bingo, theres your problem. Let me know if I can be of any more help.
check to see that you are getting the proper voltage to the solenoid. If you are, the valve coil is bad and need to replace entire valve. If not, check up stream voltage and determine where you are loosing it.
I would not change the pump. If it runs for 3-5 minutes and stops, it has to be a control. The control board runs the freeze cycle for the first 5 minutes. This prevent "Short Cycling" of the freeze cycle. The board looks at the float after the first 5 minutes for the proper water level but should not effect the pump. If the pump does not run in the wash mode, check out the "Power/ Wash" switch. I would start there before I go spending hundreds on pump motor or control board. You may be able to get by on a $20 fix! Do this and get back to me. We will get it going.
put an amp probe on common wire at compressor and see what amps are when it tries to start. 40 to 60 is mechancially locked up compressor. kill power and test start and run capacitors. there is an thermal temp over load on the compressor that opens when comp gets hot from trying to start. gently remove and look for cracks or burned looking. . i saw one this week doing exact same and i have ordered the oem compressor start cap realy and run cap and drier and will put in all new gas. be sure to allow sufficient time when switched to ice for it to get to ref cycle, it may take 5 minutes starting with water purge, then fill, etc. good luck, call hoshizaki dist they are usually pretty helpful if you need a auth service rep in you area. i think they are three years warrantied!
maybe not. it could be that the heating cycle is taking a lot of time to remove the ice from the evaporator that is why the electronics is shutting off the compressor as a protection. check the heating cycle if it is working fine. check the evaporator for dirt that would hold the ice slab from falling down quickly. check the level of the unit. it may have move and now its out of level. the unit must be leveled with the ground.
Look at water solenoid valve when the unit is running in ice mode. Check to see if the water is shuting off completely. If the water valve does not close properly it will keep adding a little bit warm water to the ice a slow down the ice production.
