Chest freezer clicks on and off in a few seconds.

I have a Westinghouse chest freezer. It sat idle for a few years. I plugged it in the other day and it clicks on and off in about 4 seconds. I left it for a few hours and freezer was cold. Unplugged it again. Next day plugged it in to check reliability. Same relay sound but after a few hours, freezer was warm, compressor way hot. Replaced starter capacitor. Same issue, no cold. Did the compressor internals just give me one last cold then die? Not sure what it can be on these simple units. Manufactured in 1997

My Magic Chef 5.5 cubic chest freezer with manual defrost, just quit working. It was a year old this March and it stopped working this July. The power light is on, but run light is not. We unplugged for 5...

Feel compressor to see if running and warm. If not, most likely thermostat control is bad. If it is running, determine if it runs continuously or if it's clicking on and off every couple minutes. If clicking on and off, replace overload and relay that plugs into side of compressor. If running continuously, there is probably a freon leak on blockage. Replace freezer in latter scenario

My whirlpool freezer sat for a year and now I can't get it to turn n. Any ideas?

it is either your thermostat or the overload relay. if it make a loud clicking noise every few minutes than that means it is your overload relay with is on your compressor but if not the it will be your thermostat. try tapping on it.but most likely it will need to be replaced

Picked up used chest freezer...plugged in and briefly clicks...I can hear it energized for about 5 seconds then quits....it then repeats this cycle. It was on its side when delivered

Try to replace the compressor relay (most of the times problem) ,but if still doing the same clicking noise , the problem is in the compressor.

Problem with Maytag Chest Freezer model MQC1557aew.

First make sure than the condensing coil in the freezer is clean of dust and dirt(it is behind the grill vent in the bottom side of the freezer where the compresor is) If it is clough brush the dirt off after you unplugit. When is clean wait a few minutes ,5, and plugg it back at the GFI outlet and see if work If still tripped the outlet you may have to replace it.

    Kenmore chest freezer not working

Remove the panel covering the compressor. Remove the relay plugged on the side of the compressor and shake it. If it rattles or has any burned spots it is shorted out. Try replacing it first. Make sure you replace it with the correct replacement, not a fit-all. If this is not the problem you will need to replace the compressor. If it is less than 5 yrs old the compressor should still be in warranty. If so call Sears, it will be repaired free of charge. If it is out of warranty buy a new freezer.
