Is there anyway to remove the Downdraft Filter Tray for a Jenn-Air Gas Cooktop

I have a Jenn-Air Gas Cooktop Model # JGD353WS01. We have a big potential issue with the Downdraft Vent. My wife accidentally dropped a raw shrimp into the downdraft vent on the cooktop and the Filter was not correctly in place, sitting at an angle in the Filter Tray. The shrimp is sitting in the bottom of the Downdraft Vent box. I need to remove the Filter Tray to get to the shrimp and am unable to do so without breaking it. Jenn-Air says it is not possible to remove it but..........If there is a will there is away. Any suggestions in how to remove the Filter tray?

Where there is a will there is a way --correct you will break it - it is tacked to frame ---to remove it you need to tear apart the unit ---purchase a claw style part retrieval tool $4 at harbor freight -$11 home depot---lowes etc

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

Replacing an old jenn air electric cook top with new 30" down draft gas cooktop. Need to know how to secure the cooktop to the granite countertop.

You should just be able to set the cooktop in after you attach the downdraft, usually there are tabs on the downdraft that clamp on to the granite cutout. There is probably a closed-cell foam strip that runs under the lip of the cooktop, I would just make sure it seals to the granite properly (no gaps) and put a couple dabs of silicone in between the lip of the cooktop and the granite. Usually the cooktop is heavy enough that the silicone will keep it from moving around.

I have a Jenn Air gas cooktop, only about 2 years

If the burner just clicks and won't stare try this (a local tech showed me) Scrape the underside of the burner cap (the removable black disk in the middle of the burner) with a key or knife and watch it work! But be ready to do it again and again. There's a glossy finish left by the factory he said.

Soot deposits from my brand new downdraft jenn-air gas cooktop

Is this on LP or Natural gas? If LP was it converted to LP? In any event,The air shutter must be adjusted on the gas burner tube. You need more air. The valve orifice may also need adjusting.

Jenn-Air Cooktop replacement needed

You can get a new cooktop surface from Maytag/Jennair for $229. It is a pain however to replace it. Where is the crack in your cooktop and does that crack pass directly through a heating element? If not, then you may be able to repair it. I broke the corner off mine, and then dropped the piece (now 5 pieces). I was able to bond them back together and you really can't tell it was ever broken. But, it takes some work.

Downdraft vent on jenn air cooktop

How do you get the inside area of the vent clean from the grease and oils where the filter is?? I have a rectangular box style downdraft that the vent goes into the floor, I pulled the filter, but the box is to slender to get an arm into to scrub the grease....... does the bottom come off, or is it a sealed unit? How do you get all the brease from the bottom if you cannot reach it?

Bearings are worn. You should be able to replace with a standard utility fan. You can find them at your local big box hardware store or order online here.
