'this sound'? The sound that only you can hear and we can't.

All top load washers make some noise, but it shouldn't be rough, loud or clunky. The are gearboxes and clutches involved with top loaders.

Here are some videos to compare.

You can actually upload and embed videos here as well, except it doesn't appear to like 'shorts' when I just tried.

The whirring is okay, but I don't like the sound of that clatter - clack noise. Something not quite right.

My maytag top loader model # MAV6300AWW makes a grinding noise during agitation that sounds like gravel otherwise the washer runs normal. What could be the problem?

The main shaft has two bearings. These bearings are going bad. If not at this time, then very soon you will discover water under your machine. This is because the seal lets water get buy which ruins the bearings. Then when machine goes into spin cycle it will sound like a jetliner taking off or coming in for a landing. Go online find the best price for parts and fix your problem. Good Luck Friend.

I have a quiet series 300 and it does that, too. I think it just balances the load before washing and is normal. I found this in the manual:

Maytag top load performa, put clothes in , fill up and now the agitator is noisey, looked under washer belt appears to be loose 2-3 inches in play, should I replace belt,or something else to repair noise...

thats normal tension on the belt if the agitator is making noise the cams within the agitator are worn (loud clicking or popping noise during wash) the agitator will need to be replaced

Strange sound Maytag top load washer about 4 yrs old

It sounds like your bearings went bad. Using powder soap kills the bearings. THis also depends on the model of maytag. IF you lean the washer back look to see how many belts it has. if it has one it is really a maytag made by amana. Those are known for bad bearings. So good luck with your bearing problem. You will probably have to call out a technician Its a big job.
