I own a Sony STR-D1015 amplifier with the original RM-P341 remote which I've used for many years now without any issues but just recently the Master Volume buttons on the remote stopped working, it can no longer adjust the volume on the amp. But I find it odd because all of the rest of the buttons on the remote function properly, the little red light even flashes on the remote when the Master Volume buttons are pushed so there is a response.
Dirty contacts on the buttons. Take apart and use electrical switch cleaner.

There are certain jobs that the professional homeowner can do and there are some that can't be done. You need the 3 years electronics course and the thousands of dollars of test equipment to diagnose an amplifier issue. Take it into a sony Service Centre.
