Looking to buy new receiver so far only have two that appear to be good value for money and within my budget. They are Marantz NR1501 and Denon 1909. also looking at the Quintet 5-channel Klipsch speakers. This is about as far as I have got but will continue to check out the reviews a little longer before making my final decision.
The STR-DG510 carries video only over the HDMI port. Technically, this is a "pass-thru" port. Most older receivers are engineered to operate this way. Why? I don't know. You MUST provide the audio connection using a separate TOSLINK or RCA cable from the program source to the receiver while your video is connected via the HDMI port.
Stick to IT work, MSOFT IT pro. I got smart and bailed out being an IT guru. I got better things to do than screw around with the idiotic nonsense of Microsoft operating systems and applications being a thing of fashion rather than being useful and practical.
I called sony, even though the manuel shows that you can use a component wire to hook up the set top box and hdmi for the tv and dvd sony claims that you can not do this. The cable box must also be wired with an hdmi cable going into the video 2 port.sony claims it doesn't work using component and hdmi together because the receiver is unable to up convert. I hope this helps. I have not tried it yet (i'm at work) we'll see what happens when i get home.
