When I turn it on it just flashes a white screen and then goes black what could be the problem?
How old is it? This is Walmart's own brand made in China at the lowest price point for highest profit. Because of that, the quality is low. The warranty is 2 years. Take it to Walmart, ask them to test and fix.

Testimonial: "I wish I could but a friend gave it to me and said he didn't know if it worked or not.."
Nice friend. It was Walmart top of the range when it was new! Try the videos in that link. If those don't work, it is a set that is worth getting a quote to fix it.
Ok thanks for the advice....I think it may have been dropped at some point it has power and sound so I am leaning towards main board?
The dangers of guessing :>D What it is is an LED Driver, or a stretched wire connector.

Either of them a simple fix for a diy?
I had a couple tvs that power surged from a lightning storm and replaced the boards in them so I have a little bit understanding on how to install the boards and that about it lol
Have a read of that tip that I wrote a few years back. It is based on all the tales of woe I have seen in the last 12 years here. There was one earlier to day.. 'I changed the power board, the T-con board and the main board and it still doesn't work'. That is common, and people get upset when I just say buy three of every board!
Changing a board is simple, but how do you know if that new board is good?
Open it up and see if anything is disconnected, mangled, broken and for burned components.
We do have an Expert here called Larry. Hopefully he will drop by. He knows the history of some failures. I just discourage people despite having been known to have a dabble myself. Let me know if you see anything obvious.
Thank you Andrew you have been a huge help today I will let you know I am gonna open her up after dinner hopefully unless the wife has other plans for me hahaha
You are very welcome. :>D
So I plugged in the tv in the dark and held a flashlight to the screen and a ton of vertical and horizontal lines of all different colors appeared with about a 6 inch wide vertical line that appears to be white with what looks like an ink blob across the whole top of the tv became visible any advice would be much appreciated....
Time for a new one! Lines might be Demo Test Mode, but the ink blob is from when it was dropped.
So is it fixable or no?
Is it fixable, maybe, is it worth fixing NO..These are the lowest quality sets that are sold, best move would have it recycled
I agree with our television Expert Larry. It will be expensive to repair and you still have a Walmart special. The fact it has been dropped is a big flag and that 'ink spot' in the screen makes it a big job.
I had same problem with an onn 60 inch - it went to black screen after the two year warranty period. I almost recycled it but found a site that offered a kit that included all 3 circuit boards for $53. I ordered the kit and replaced all three boards in about 30 minutes and the tv is back and working and looking good.
The place was called directtv parts - they have kits for just about any tv and several for onn tv including both 60 and 70 inch.

$53 compared to another $380 for something similar or better. Just thought it was a bit better than recycling it.
This post is a boards and screen issue due to the set being dropped, so not much of the set left. Looks like a good site though Davi. Thanks
