Sends but will not recieve

If the receiver makes noise with volume up and squelch down, then the receiver itself is probably damaged and typically not worth the expense of fixing. If you can't get noise, it may be the speaker. Some models have an external speaker port you could try.

My Ranger2950 has no sound??

Have a look here for info about the Ranger 2950. This is an Amateur 10 & 12 meter transceiver that enjoy some popularity due to its ability to be modified to work on the 27Mhz Citizens Band.

Make sure the Mode is set to something other than PA. A few of the first things that come to mind is the Volume, Squelch & RF Gain settings. The Volume is straight forward - choose a setting in the middle to begin. Next, set the squelch. Most radios have the squelch open when set fully counter-clockwise. As you move the squelch to this position, sound should be heard from the speaker if a signal is present. As long as there is an antenna connected, the radio should "hear" noise. If you do not hear anything, leave the Squelch fully CCW and try varying the RF Gain fully in one direction. If you still hear nothing, set the Squelch to the fully clock-wise position. Adjust the RF Gain to the opposite direction. At this point, you should have heard something - even if just static hash. If not, the volume control may be dirty. Disconnect power and rotate the volume control back and forth several times to dislodge any dirt on the volume wiper inside the radio, and try again.

Make sure that the Ext Spk jack does not have a plug inserted as it will defeat the internal speaker. Likewise, if using an external speaker, make sure it works.

Good luck!

Loose jack connection to speaker

It sounds like you need to get a new jack socket and replace it. It could be just a soldering problem. Especially if you have removed the plug a lot in the past.

My amp only works when headphones are plugged in? its a 30 watt orange crush

Try testing your speaker and related wiring first. Then check your headphone jack. Sometimes the jack fails and your speaker is disabled. A lot of them are soldered directly to the circuit board and develop a bad solder joint. Here is a link to a troubleshooter:http://www.geofex.com/ampdbug/ampdebug.ht

I have a Cobra ltd 25 classic in my pick up. the cb will turn on but i cant get any stacik no matter where i turn the squelch or rf gain. this doesnt seem right because it has never done that before. but...

Does the signal meter show any signal? Try plugging something into and out of the EXT Speaker jack to see if maybe that is preventing the internal speaker from working, or plug in an external speaker or headphone to test it. If the meter shows nothing, I'm concerned about your electronics, especially with the 'squelch' control 'wide-open'. 73's

No sound from speaker but the unit is scanning.

Try plugging in a headphone and see if that allows you to hear it play, or hear rushing noise (squelch open). If it does, then you know the scanner is working, and the only problem is the earphone jack, or the speaker and/or wires to it. Try removing the headphone again (try several times) to see if the only problem was dirty terminals inside the jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone is connected. I have found several portable electronics that this was the only problem. At least it costs nothing to see if it helps!

Bearcat BC144XL Scanner ~ no sound

Try it with an external speaker. The external speaker jack receives the audio from the scanner before it goes to the internal speaker. If the jack thinks there is still something plugged into it, the audio to the internal speaker is interrupted. If the jack is stuck, it may still work with an external speaker.

Pro 97 not working

This is just a guess but sounds like your antenna connection (inside the unit) has broken. If you use the antenna as a handle it will eventually break. Radio Shack will repair it for a flat fee of $40 (that was the price the last time I checked) plus shipping. Or if you are really good at soldering and have good eye sight, you can repair it your self.
Your local radioshack should be able to send it in for repair.

Maxon MCB 10 A

I'm not sure about your particular model but many CB radios use the microphone push-to-talk switch to kill the speaker while the radio is transmitting. If you don't have the correct microphone or if the cord has a broken wire it can cause the radio to have no sound. Another possibility is that the speaker is bad. There is probably an external speaker jack on the back of the radio. You could try plugging a different speaker or even an earphone in the jack to see if you get sound there.
