Hello,

First, the service manual for your Coby DVD 218 is not available. The manufacturer of the player did not produce a service/repair manual for it.

The problem might be from the audio cord of the player. Use another audio wire and observe the sound. Also, there are more that one audio out put at the back of the player, you could test other audio outputs on the player.

I just hope it is not an audio output problem as you guessed, because fixing is not as easy as you think.

I found a perfect universal remote with the logitech harmony 525. usb / infrared / internet upgradeable. also loads keyfunctions directly from the old remote, but most of the keys came directly from the standards offered. the configuration is web-based and always up2date. service people are also very helpful. can fully recommend it!

(here is the link i got that from); http://dogbytecomputer.com/codes.htm#DVD%20CODES if this doesn't work then find a universal remote that you can get hold of easily near you and tell us the model number, we could probably tell you if it will be compatible with both machines and what the codes are.
