Sony HVR Z5 tape deck won't close completely

I got a Sony HVR Z5 whose MiniDV drive doesn't close completely. This means that the part that you close by hand when you insert it closes, but the drive does not retract. Since I don't want to record on cassettes anyway, that's not a problem, but of course it looks "a bit" strange to walk around with an open drive. Now I'm looking for a way to close the drive or its cover. I don't want to send the camera in, as the repair will almost certainly cost more than a closed compartment is worth to me.

How to transfer sony dcr-hc26 videos to pc using usb cable thanks

The Sony HDR-HC26 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. No surprises if you can't get USB streaming working.

ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer DV-format video by conneting the DV port of the HD camcorder to the Firewire port of your computer. USB won't work. The "DV" in miniDV = Digital Video. It is as digital as the digital video from flash memory or hard disc drive or DVD based camcorders - only better because it is not compressed as much as the others.

Memory cards are not the only way to store digital video - and while not as good as miniDV tape, memory cards are not as bad as DVD based consumer camcorders...

Firewire IEEE1394, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing.

If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot (PCI for desktops; PCMCIA or ExpressCard for laptops), so you can add one.

Sony HVR-A1U "Reinsert Cassette" Error pops up frequently

I have had this error on my 3 year old Sony A1E and it has resulted in glitched picture and audio, despite not showing a poblem whilst recording. It came up with C:31:23 error. Start of the tape seemed ok and the end seemed to get pixellated. A friend said the PD170 had the same issue and had to have her tape heads changed. I've tried cleaning mine but problem still there. I'm looking at getting new NXCAM as I've spent a lot of money last year getting it fixed.

Can't eject tape from deck

On Sony DSR-80P error 02-221 and 02-291 is a problem with the tape pull-in or eject. Mostly the tape stickers are bad situated over the stripe-cover at the top, which should be moving freely!
Remove the stickers from the tape or put them lower on the case. If the tape is already inside the machine is unable to reject the tape - disconnect the machine from electricity to open it or call service...

greetings from berlin, matt.
