Emerson TV/VHS combo player jamming with specific tape

So I have an Emerson combo player (EWC0902) that will take VHS tapes with mostly no problems. However, when testing a South Park VHS, the TV tries to play the tape, then shuts off, likely to prevent damaging the tape. When powering on the TV, I'm able to get the tape back as it ejects. I've already opened up the TV and cleaned the stop eject switch and any sensors inside the player. The belt also seemed to still have tension so I honestly doubt the player itself is the problem. What could be the issue here?

Try running the tape end to end twice on fast forward.

I have a vhs tape stuck in vcr of an emerson tv/vcr combo. How do I remove it??

Hello, Kelly -

If you wish to try to remove the video tape yourself:

1. Unplug the machine from the electrical outlet and unattach the wiring/cable from the TV and any other electrical units (like a cable or satellite dish receiver.)

2. Unscrew the screws attaching the unit top to the rest of the machine. Note: There will probably be printing on the tape player combo warning about opening the player.

3. Remove the top. You will probably see the stuck video tape in the machine and may be able to carefully pry the tape cartridge out. Note: The video tape may be mangled in the rollers through which the tape runs. You may up ending damaging the video tape and/or the tape cartridge.

If you choose not to try to get the tape cartridge out yourself, find a TV repair business near where you reside, take the player there an let an authorized repair person extract the stuck tape cartridge and pay the repair price.

Note: Years ago, when I made my home "toddler proof" for a visit from my niece and her toddler son, after they left, I found I could not insert a video tape into my player. After taking the player to a repair service and paying the fee, the person at the business handed me my player and a plastic electric outlet cover which my grand nephew must have pulled out of an electrical outlet and stuck into the opening for the tape cartridge. After that, whenever I encountered problems with the video player, I took it upon myself to open the unit up. :)

Best wishes.

Why tv turns off after inserting vhs tape ?

Probably a fault on the video player not loading up the tape, so it shuts down

I have an old emerson TV/VCR (Digital Tracking VHSHQ) The TV works fine, but when I put a tape in it is ejected and part of the tape stays inside, but can be pulled out.

Try a VHS Cleaning Tape Cassette. Follow it's instructions. If no better result it's not worth throwing away money on having repairs done but better put toward, if you can afford to, buying:
Option 1. A VHS/DVD player (combo as these are known) and plug that into the Emerson AV input.
Option Two: A VHS/DVD twin recorder combo deck - and plug that in.
Then start on copying any VHS tapes you cherish to DVD on this device.
Option Three: Forget the Emerson except for just using as a TV and buy a new TV with DVD player built in - the latest type of combo.
(I'm having to guess whether you've just used tapes to watch or record and watch)

Tape stuck

If the tape is more important than the TV you could have it taken apart by a tv repair person.

EWC1304 VHS tape shuts off entire system

You probably have a bad or dirty mode select switch. Another possibility would be a gear out of time if a tape was forced in too quickly.

My Tv is turning off by itself

if all you want to do is disable the vcr portion turn the set on , install a blank vhs tape it has to be blank or the vcr will try to read it .and the tv and dvd should work fine. this is a timing problem in the vcr deck its not hard to fix but it is a pain.
