My sanyo is less than 10 yrs old. The green lite comes on, and the sound, but picture went black. Is it dead, or can something be done? If so, what?

The problem with taking it to a repair shop is the repairs will most likely be more than a new set can be purchased for, most service centers charge $100 plus an hr for tech time, your best bet is buy a new set. If you want to try to fix it yourself I'd look at bad LED backlights as the most probable cause

Probably a power supply issue, if you are not a TV engineer, get professional help at a repair shop.

G noise then loss of picture and sound

is that for over-the-air signal or HDMI or other cable source?

Because the former is pretty normal behavior for bad reception (weak tuner).

Sanyo 42"Plasma TV DP42746 No Picture

a thousand or so people have experienced this problem! I am a military spouse and our same tv did the same thing on Super Bowl Sunday 2009! We did everything we know to do: call the company, called the repair man, etc. There apparently isn't a solution to this that wouldn't cost more than the tv is worth. So I got an attorney to start a class action:

Our screen went black no picture only sound

Try a hard restart, which simply means unplugging the power cord of the TV, and replugging it after 4 hours have passed. If this does not bring the picture back, then you should consider buying a new TV. The costs of a repair ( labor and parts) might exceed the cost of a new TV. Your 10 year old TV has served you well, and has exceeded the average life expectancy of 5 years. May it rest in peace in TV heaven.

Red picture

Assuming this is a TV with a picture tube and not plasma or LCD; I'm afraid that your picture tube is dying on you one electron gun at a time. From what you said your green electron gun is almost totally dead and the two remaining blue & green guns aren't far behind. Eventually you'll have no picture at all and I would estimate that to be about 6 more months but whatever the time eventually it will go totally black. These blackout periods will get longer and longer. The only way to fix your problem is a new picture tube but my will probably find it less expensive to just get a brand new TV set.
