Magnifica S the defuser has not reset so it can be removed? Have turned the machine on and off numerous times but the defuser does not move?

This particular machine is mentioned on Fixya 3 or 4 times a week, in fact I answered one yesterday. They have a history of problems. Your issue is likely the control board and would need dealer servicing. Having said that, this page lists most part as 'Obsolete - Discontinued'.

You should go to test mode and try moving infuser up and down to position when you can take it out it needs some skill of timing. After that you need to disassemble infuser completely clean it up and lube with special food grade lube. Also there could be a problem with transmission kit that cause this problem.

If cleaning the infuser doesn't work, sometimes the error will go away over time or after you try to unplug from the wall. Finally, a system reset may help: you accomplish a hard reset by having the machine plugged in, pressing and holding down both the decalcify and ground coffee buttons, unplug the machine for 15 seconds (still holding down the buttons), then replugging the machine into the socket before releasing the buttons.

Have you tried grinding a few cups of uncooked rice through the mechanism to see if this will shift the dried on coffee grounds. It worked for a friend of mine after several attempts

Recycling the power resets the position of the defuser. When you turn it off, make sure you do it via the button on the front before swutching it off at the power point.

I have the same problem with my Delonghi Magnifica, so maybe there is a glitch in the machine..

Try removeing the tip before running wire threw liner. If this doesn't work, remove the defuser, run wire out . Replace the defuser, making sure the liner fits inside the defuser Replace tip. leave enough wire out so defuser & tip can be reassembled. Once you get to the tip you will find iff it is the proper size. If this does not fix the problem, remove the liner. Check to see if it has any kinks If so replace. When replacing the liner make sure not to cut to short. Put liner in gun, attach to machine.Make sure you have enough liner sticking out to make proper contact with the inside of your defuser Trim liner to fit. You should make contact with defuser just before defuser is fully tightened. This is where you eletrical power comes from. replace tip.

I would move the machine to another room and use a couple of cups of plain white vinegar and let it sit overnight before running the cycle again. The mild acid should remove the calcium buildup.
