Hello. I am trying to use the SATA port of the DVD to add a second HDD on my S3210, but it doesn't appear in Windows 10. I couldn't find if it was disabled or not in the BIOS and it is not found in the disk management (right click on My PC>Manage>Manage disks). Note that I am using a French version of Windows, so the names may not be the exact ones. Thanks.
Until our Computer Guru Larry Ng arrives, this might help you, or confuse you further. ;>) My advice would be to put the HD into a powered enclosure and connect via USB! An SSD wouldn't even need power, it is just a huge memory chip.Larry will correct me if I am wrong.

..
Is the new hdd initialised I wonder.
Testimonial: "It is not a new HDD, but one used on my former computer. I am trying to use it on another older computer I was using before, until my new PC arrives."

2007 PC tech,101: (the pain of old and worse pain of AMD old far far worse)
omg, full of relic Amd chips NForce junk means w10 does not support it, device manager told you so but did not look (w7 new) AMD Athlon X2 7450 + NVIDIA nForce 720a A2 + NVIDIA ID075C A2 )not good this.
added to SATA port and SATA power cable, both. cables.
'
disk management is last not first ever, device manager is first. DEVICE DRIVErS> are first.
and the hdd must be good and if 5+ years old most are not.
order matters: on HDD,
HDD not year 2001 SATA those be all dead now, even 2007 too (no hdd maker nor model told)
First cables
then hdd must spin up heard.
then device manager just be happy, w10 control panel, under DISKS DRIVES NO ERROR HERE ALLOWED.
then DISK manager is next never first, if above works then disk manager shows the disk as disk 1 and disk0 is the boot drive.
the disk 1 even lacking drive letters. will show up here, even as unassigned or ******* format, but not dead.
dead drives mostly do not show up. (if the ID can not be read now the drive is dead)
and if you set a drive letter now, then and only then can it show up in EXPLORER local called THIS PC.
can I assume you pulled the AC power cord, for 5 minutes from wall AC before slamming in the HDD?
if not that is called hot swapping parts and is not allowed.( boom things smoke and burn)
well try this 1 HDD in a 2nd PC, or USB HDD docking station. (encloser or direct to a modern PC)
make sure the HDD is good first.
some PCs have this (my dells all do) never seen a working Packard bell every here in USA for 30 years)
then turn ON all SATA ports in the BIOS or it will never work (if there)
have a spare dvd or cd drive test that in the same failing sata port
have a spare HDD that is known good to test.
try all sata ports yet (not boot port) ?
first off that Nforce set will be dead or 1/2 dead, there is no w10 support on it NOW , dead or 1/2 dead.
nforce ended this day at w7, seen at AMD. RIP NFORCE.

see that hard fact of life? AMD.com
here is the french PB site, ask them for support and for sure AMD nforce lame driver, not here, on our side of big pond. (it asks for PC sub models I do not understand, but not sold here)
Desktops.

no HDD maker nor model number told ,first ones were year 2001, and most of them are dead.now.
device manager is first.
be direct Sata HDD connected 2 cable direct to hdd, from mobo + PSU cable. power.
next
be internet connected first (must be) for PnP to work, plug and play drivers autoload. (a must)
click control panel
click device manage
see hdd in the DISK drives sections.
if the driver is failing it will show errors or show as unknown.
if the hdd is not heard to spin, it is dead. ear to side if disk (a test)
the Nforce 720a chip is not supported today, zero support. from AMD,(maker)
test the hdd that fails in a real PC, modern if dead , bingo.
I missing my #1 topic, CMOS coin cell is bad,
this bad from 2007 year, and is , makes bios lie to you and worse if it disables, sata ports at random
so this is first.
or the battery coin below 2.9vdc is bad.
first the battery then a good HDD tried,
make sure sata ports in bios are not disabled. (some PCs this is not even there this setting)
a blast from the past.
I never forget a hdd can be bad, I test them on 2 PCs first or in USB SATA dock
i guess your hDD is 3.5" right? not laptop sized 2.5" (x 25.4 to get mm, metric) width drive spec.
like this?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/363469115515?ha...
great for backsup's , testing , cloning drives, and more.
the power pack is not optional on 3.5" drives. 2amps up best.
