Question about Insignia 32" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Picture doesn't fit on my Samsung HDTV

No matter what setting I put my Sansung LCD HDTV on, some shows don't fit the screen. For example, I was watching an HD football game, in the 4:3 mode it was a square picture with major wide black on both sides, and in every setting I either had black on the sides or on the top, there was one setting where the picture filled the screen, however, once they showed the score I realized the top part of the screen where the score info was had been cut off, so I arrowed down (which is the Samsung feature to help a picture fit, I guess) anyway, then once I had it to where I could see the top of the picture with the score, then it cut off the bottom where they run the "ticker tape" information. I cannot find any setting to where the whole picture shows, unless I have empty black space. Everyone else in my family has plasma and LCD tvs and they do not experience this problem. This is the first time we have had an HDTV. I get my programming through Dishnetwork and have the package which include HD programming. Can anyone tell me what to do so my picture fills the screen but doesn't cut anything off? We did not buy the cheapest model, and in fact, my nephew bought the cheaper model Samsung, but Plasma, and he does not experience this problem at all.

I read suggested solution (1) and called our cable company. Here the problem wasn't with our tv but with the cable box settings. Thank you bids804 for suggesting that the cable box aspect ratio should be looked at. I had no idea that the cable box settings could be wrong.

SOURCE: I'm watching football and cannot see the top score

You should adjust the aspect ratio on your cable box. Depending on your cable company there should be an aspect/HD zoom button. If this does not work go into the TV settings using the "menu" button and try to find a reference to aspect. Make sure it's set to 16:9 normal vs. stretch. You can contact Total COntrol Remotes (www.totalcontrolremotes.com) for help with this kind of issue.

Picture problem

If all your wanted is to widen the picture then just push aspect or format on your remote control and put it on either 16:9 or full. But if your referring to HD then an HD picture fills the screen by itself no matter what setting you have the tv set to. If the screen isnt full then the program your watching isnt broadcasting in HD at that time. A common misconception is that because its an HD tv or an HD channel that it always should show in HD. This isnt true. It goes by the broadcast

Picture Is Too Big for Screen

Sounds like your cable box is zoomed in, I run into this a lot when running service calls. On most cable provider's remotes there is an 'aspect' button next to or around the '0'. Try that and see if it helps you out at all :)

I cant get the whole picture to fit the screen. When I watch games the score is cut off.

This is most likely a setting on your TV, like stretch, or fit, or possibly on your cable box, or dish receiver. look at your dish or cable box settings and turn off any screen adjustments. Example under wide screen setting is strech , zoom, letterbox (choose letterbox).
The TV has these settings as well.

TV picture doesn't fit in screen no matter what the setting

Ok, so I think I have your solution :)

You're actually my first when it comes to this site, so hopefully this fixes your problem!

Step 1 - Turn off the cable box, but leave the TV on

Step 2 - On the front of the 8300HD, press the "guide" button and the "info" button at the same time

Step 3 - Choose "HD" for High Definition, or "SD" for standard definition. (Sounds like you're HD?)

Step 4 - Choose the aspect ratio 16:9

Step 5 - Choose "progressive scan" if it asks you.

Now press the "power" button on the box, does that fix it?

Samsung adjusting the picture

I started reading the manual with your question in mind, but I found that the instructions for screen controls take up about 40 pages. I'll just put the URL for the owners manual here instead. That way you'll have all the information you should ever need for making adjustments. ;) http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200705/20070515083727984_BN68-01167A-01L02-0331.pdf
