Samsung SGH-J700 taking charge but the screen isn't turning on

Sounds like a software problem to me. take out your battery, and wait like a minute. Put the battery back in. Plug the phone into the charger. While it's charging, turn it on. Hopefully, you have enough time to do the next step: Dial *288 and press the number 1 when you hear the voice prompt you to. By doing this, you are resetting your phone. If this doesn't help, then I'm afraid there probably isn't anything you can do without bringing the phone to your provider's nearest store location. If it isn't due to water damage, they'll probably replace the phone for free. Hope this helps!

u cant rectify the problem by just formatting..try changing the keypad

take out sim power on phone input # * 7337 # phone resets then its unlocked

change the flexi cable bro

Time to get the ribbon cable changed. You can do this yourself with some patience after buying the cable over ebay or get it replaced at a service centre for a very cheap price.
