The 'spacebar' works just sporatically; sometimes I have to press in a number of times to get space which slows me down! I have cleaned it with air...how can I get underneath it to clean it more thoroughly!
Try lifting the space bar off the keyboard and manually pressing the membrane. Does the space now appear? It is possible that the protrusion under the space bar is not long enough to actuate the key contacts, or has worn down. If this is the case, you may have to fashion a longer protrusion.
I had to do it to a brand new Fujutsu laptop. It was a manufacturing issue and Fujitsu were not going to re-manufacture the space bar to fix the problem.

Keyboards are cheap. If you need to use this one then you will need to carefully pop the spacebar key out, turn the keyboard upside down and give it a good shake. You will see a ton of junk fall out ;)
It seems that the button below spacebar is broken, there is a small plastic button which teared up sometime due to using the button over time time, try to replace the keybaord, you can check local shops for replacing single space key.
You should open the key board.and clean space key and change rubber cap.
