I have a Technics SA-GX130 receiver with a flaky volume control

The volume will sometimes go to full regardless of the knob position. If I touch the knob, the volume returns to normal. Let it go and it goes to full again. I have downloaded the service manual. Is this fixable? If so, how do I do that?

Your best bet is to get a spray that is called deoxit gold for cleaning the volume control potentiometer. You have to disassemble the case to get to the internal portion and it could also be a bad solder connection on the board the control mounts to.

Testimonial: "Wow! I tried your solution, and so far it's working. Thank you! Now, how about a Technics CD chnger SL-PD827 with a drawer that won't close unless you push it in?"

CAN I USE SA-GX130 RECIEVER WITH IPOD

Yes, you can. Go to a local electronics store or go online and buy a cable (we used to call them patch cords back in the day) with a 1/8" STEREO plug, (also called a mini phone plug) on one end and two phono plugs (also called RCA plugs) on the other end. They're available in various lengths -- 12" is a good choice. We're talking less than $10 here.

Connect the RCA plugs into an appropriate pair of unused INPUT jacks on the back of your receiver -- CD, VCR1, Tape Monitor/VCR2 will do. DO NOT use the phono jacks. The red plug is for the right channel. You can leave the cable plugged in. Then whenever you want to listen to your iPod, insert the mini phone plug into the iPod's earphone jack, switch the receiver to the input for the cable, and start playing. You may have to increase the volume on your iPod to avoid having to turn the receiver all the way up (or down) to listen, but after that you can use the receiver's volume control.

Older technics SA-GX100 sometimes left or right speaker will not work until volumes is cranked up

buy some turner cleaner or electrical contact cleaner(radio shack) with the power off take the volume knob off spray into the area where the knob goes(the little metal post) turn the post back and forth with your fingers or needel nose plyers several times (over time dust and dirt build up makes a bad connection) you may have to do this a couple of times dont worry this stuff drys realy fast this should do the trick

Audio braks when volume 1/3, permanent

If with another position of the volume buttom the sound is normal, maybe the problem can be dust or something jammed between volume buttom and its knob. Try to carefully pull out the volume buttom from the unit and then clean its internal part with some neutral lubricant as well as the knob where it it is fixed.

Balance Knob Technics SA-GX190

Sounds like a dirty pot. With the receiver off turn or slide it back from one side to the other. Test it, if its a little better you can clean it with a little (a drop or two) of wd40, You will probably need to remove the cover to get to it.
