Tasco 119274CW trail camera jpg files not readable

I have a new Tasco 119274CW trail camera. Installed a 32GB C10 SD card, went through setup, and formatted card. Turned on, it takes a few pics. Turn off, remove card and install in card reader on my Mac. I see several .jpg files, but can't read them - Preview says "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Copy these files to local disk and same error. Copy a known good jpg to the sd card, and it reads just fine. So, I think the card is OK.

It is because you are using a Mac. There are some suggestions here.

Thanks for the info. However, the SD card appears to work fine in the Mac - can read and write to it. And the Trail Camera is writing jpg files to it. The problem is that the Trail Camera created jpg files are not a valid jpg format - the camera seems to be storing corrupted files, not finishing the files, or..... I have another SD card which I tried, but I wasn't sure of its compatibility (it yielded the same symptoms), so I purchased a new card. 32GB (max for this camera), C10 speed. Same symptoms. I suppose I could try a third SD card.... (will need two buy another)

It turns out that the jpg files created by the camera are not readable by Mac Preview (or other Apple products, like iPhone or iPad) but they are readable by Windows Computers. I found a 3rd party app (XnViewMP) which runs on the Mac which can display the files.

Reach out to Tasco, it sounds as it the Trail Cam Software is at fault then. Did you try removing the camera and connecting it to computer via USB. It should so the same job as a card reader, but it is worth the test.

I am pleased you worked it out. Macs can be very temperamental.

My Tasco digital trail cam model 119223C wont power on. It always says OFF when I push the power button. I have replaced the SD card and fresh batteries with no luck. Can anyone help me out?

If your Tasco digital trail camera is not powering on and only displays "OFF" when you press the power button, despite replacing the batteries and SD card, there are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can take:
1. **Check Battery Orientation:**
Ensure that the batteries are inserted correctly with the correct polarity. The camera won't power on if the batteries are inserted improperly.
2. **Battery Contacts and Compartment:**
Inspect the battery compartment for any signs of corrosion or damage. Clean the battery contacts and the inside of the compartment using a clean, dry cloth or a cotton swab.
3. **Test with Known Good Batteries:**
Sometimes, even new batteries can be defective. Try using a different set of known good batteries to eliminate the possibility of faulty power sources.
4. **External Power Source:**
Some trail cameras can also be powered using an external power source or a compatible external battery pack. Check if your model supports this option and try using an external power source.
5. **Reset to Default Settings:**
Look for a reset button or procedure in the camera's manual. Resetting the camera to its default settings might help if there's a software issue causing the problem.
6. **Check for Firmware Updates:**
Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates for your specific camera model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve software-related issues.
7. **Inspect for Physical Damage:**
Carefully inspect the camera for any signs of physical damage or water ingress. Ensure that all compartments, seals, and openings are properly closed and sealed.
8. **Contact Tasco Support:**
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it's advisable to contact Tasco customer support or consult the camera's manual for specific troubleshooting steps. They may be able to provide additional guidance or recommend further actions.
If your trail camera is still under warranty, consider reaching out to Tasco's customer support for assistance. If not, and the issue persists, you might need to consult with a professional camera repair service for a more in-depth diagnosis and potential repairs.

Why did my Tasco 119274cw camera stop taking pictures at night?

I found this, but perhaps there is no activity at night. Check it at 1:00am, the LEDs should glow.

Camera stops taking images or won't take images
  • Please make sure that the SD card is not full. If the card is full (display indicates "FULL", the camera will stop taking images.
  • Check the batteries to make sure that they are new alkaline or lithium AA batteries. See note above about short battery life.
  • Make sure that the Power/Mode Switch is in the ON position and not set to OFF or AIM.
  • Make sure that you are using a good quality SD card in your camera. Tasco recommends SanDisk® SD Cards up to 32GB.
  • If the SD card has its write protect switch in the lock position, the camera will not take images.
  • If you have used an SD card in another device before inserting it in your Tasco Trail Camera, you might want to try formatting the card using the "Format" option in Setup Mode (pg. 8). Make sure you have backed up any important files first, as formatting will erase all previous files. In some cases, other devices may change the formatting of the SD card so that it will not work properly with the Tasco Trail Camera.

Tasco camera John H. Both brand new, brand new 8 g.card, also tried a 16,2, and 32 which instructions said no higher

  • in tasco manual this is the biggest problem If the SD card has its write protect switch in the lock position, the camera will not take images.other is batteries so if unable to get assistance from manufacturer then your only option is return for refund or replacement because if you dig into unit void warranty and return policy

Why is it when my camera takes a picture there isn't a picture just all black with an X in the middle?

Normally that the SD Card wasn't formatted in the camera or that the card is not compatible with it.

Remove the SD card and look for a very small switch on the side of the SD card my guess is that it is in the lock position.

I just bought, last August, a Tasco Digital Trail Camera - 119223C . Took pictures until Jaunary 2011, my camera display shows Loc and the SD Card flashes. The instruction manual does not reference this setup code. Does anyone know what 'Loc' means? I tried to reformat card, I also so not get a Y/N option for formatting. I bought a new card and changed batteries. no change!

SD card(s) - not enough free space?

Formatting the SD card to FAT32 instead of FAT16. Also, when the card is in the reader & you're looking at it on the Mac, empty the Trash while the card is still plugged-in.
